Duties: Provides direct and indirect support to the clinician in the delivery of patient care. The CMA/MA prepares the exam room, chart, and patient to be seen by the practitioner and performs/implements orders for diagnostic tests. CMA/MA accurately administers medications, including immunizations by all routes except IV. CMA/MA routinely arranges outside referral appointments and provides patient education under the direction of the clinician when appropriate. The CMA/MA must function under the direct supervision of a physician, RN, or midlevel practitioner. The CMA/MA is expected to consult frequently with the supervising practitioner and to inform the clinician of the information given or actions taken. Care provided, including but not limited to lab specimen collections, injections, phlebotomy, in-house lab tests, vaccines, screenings, and referrals.
Education:
CMA Required:
Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certification Completion as a Certified Medical Assistant
MA Required:
Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program or 6 months commensurate work experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting.
CMA/MA Preferred:
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
