The hospital moved to its present location in East Harlem in 1955, into two newly constructed buildings now dedicated to inpatient and outpatient services.
Metropolitan was officially designated a Hospital Center in 1965.
It was in 1968 when Metropolitan Hospital was incorporated by the United Doctors Service Corporation situated in the middle and highly populated area of Masangkay Street, Sta Cruz, Manila.
Around the same year, the Metropolitan Hospital College of Nursing was born. It was in the same decade when the coronary ICU was established (1971). In the mid-70s, a 2-storey building was constructed inside the hospital compound that housed numerous doctors seeking affiliations with the growing hospital.
In 1981, the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation established a managed care demonstration project, Metropolitan Health Plan.
The MMC closed on June 30, 1991.
In 1995, a new group of investors came in to develop the hospital services further.
In the year 2004 the institution awarded as ranked 12th in the over-all performance of all nursing schools in the country.
In 2005, Metropolitan Hospital stepped up to a new level in the industry.
In 2006, Metropolitan received designation as an official Stroke Center from the NY State Department of Health, one of the first in Manhattan and the very first in East Harlem.
