Outdoor opportunities abound, with over a half dozen recreation areas relatively nearby, including diverse expanses of public land and water for hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching (Black Hills, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, National grasslands, etc.). As an ABC employee, occasional work travel for trainings to other states may be necessary. This position is a part of a team of 6 staff, with 2 other positions in South Dakota, 2 in Montana, and 1 in North Dakota Primary Duties: Will work in a joint capacity with ABC and partners, including NRCS and other State, Federal, Native nations, and NGO partners to promote, accelerate enrollment, coordinate and implement the conservation provisions of the Federal Farm Bill and other wildlife related conservation programs. Assist or coordinate activities and projects with NRCS, or other agency or non-profit partners. This necessitates Federal employee security clearance and substantial trainings to work on NRCS programs; Activities will include promotion of conservation programs (workshops and one-on-one meetings), contract coordination, conservation plan development and modification, site assessment, and reporting. Most (80-95%) of this work normally takes place through NRCS programs. Provide conservation technical guidance, including wildlife habitat enhancement techniques, and conservation program delivery, to private landowners and public organizations within partner identified priority areas, as appropriate and will collaborate with partner project managers to increase involvement in programs. Most work is done with modern ride-on spreaders but you must be able to lift a 50 pound bag and use a push spreader. Sales is low-key with minimal phone work. Being considerate and willing to help customers achieve their goals is most important. Applicant must be mature, able to get to work on time every day, honest, have good verbal and written communication skills, basic math skills and a professional appearance. Most duties will be outdoors in typical South Dakota weather. A valid drivers license with a decent driving record is required along with the ability to obtain a South Dakota commercial pesticide applicators license. A positive, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to please customers is very important. We have a five day work week with our typical work day being around 11 hours but may be longer or shorter if weather or the work load dictates. Our work week is often influenced by weather and includes Saturdays as necessary. The busiest time for us is typically from late March to Mid May and late August through October. This is a seasonal business lasting from The middle of March to late October with winter layoff. We give a re-hire date so winter job search has not been required to collect unemployment benefits. The Pre -K through high school enrollment of Malcolm Public Schools is around 640 students. The average class size is between 50 -55 students.
