Day to day as a Operator As a new Full-Time Operator at Barrett Petfood, you can expect a dynamic day-to-day experience in the manufacturing environment. Your primary responsibilities will include operating production machinery, ensuring quality control, and maintaining safety standards throughout the work process. You will collaborate closely with team members to troubleshoot issues and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Each day, you will engage in various tasks, such as mixing ingredients, monitoring equipment performance, and packaging finished products. Set packaging line to machine centerlines and confirm setup is set to the correct product Set dog food bags to the correct centerlines Drive quality through monitoring and validating that the product is within standards, checking paperwork, and ensuring the product is correct Conduct & record metal, weight, seals, and lot code checks. Verify cleans are accurate by assigning duties to others on the line, filling out quality documents, and ensuring it is completed in a timely manner Communicate with material handlers on upcoming jobs so it is an easy transition Communicates packaging needs with packaging Supervisor as necessary Notifies Packaging Supervisor of any Safety, Quality, or Production escalation issues Support troubleshooting of equipment to ensure that daily throughput requirements are met Notify maintenance if the packaging line breaks With your keen attention to detail, you'll play a vital role in meeting customer expectations for quality pet food. Drive consistent production of rotationally molded parts which meet dimensional, functional, aesthetic and volume requirements. Ensure that accurate weights of contaminant-free molding materials are measured, prepared and charged for each mold and production cycle. Exercising safe and efficient technique and utilizing the proper tools, open and close molds after and after production cycles to ensure consistent and timely production of plastic parts. Using appropriate tools and technique, maintain clean flanges to prevent build-up of plastic and ensure proper sealing of molds along parting lines. Remove excess plastic and prepare molds for charging. Load powder into molds and ensure complete parting line seal by closing clamps or bolt/receivers. Ensure mold vents are open and clear. Cycle mold into the oven for production and curing of the part. After part is fully cooled and cured, remove plastic part from mold, ensuring part is free of physical damage and contamination. · Perform necessary secondary operations, including part trimming, foaming, graphics application, product assembly & packaging, etc. Maintain clean and safe workstation at all times; ensure all materials, molds and tools are kept contaminant-free and in efficient working condition via periodic equipment maintenance. Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement, including reduction of cycle times, minimization of material consumption and elimination of scrap. Other responsibilities as the business demands. QUALIFICATIONS: High school education or equivalent with emphasis on shop courses including mechanical and/or metal fabrication. These positions will be filled in the following locations: + Albert Lea + Austin + Dresbach + Owatonna + Red Wing + Rochester + Stewartville + Winona During a snow & ice season a snowplow shift is typically an A shift (12:00am-12:00pm) or B shift (12:00pm-12:00am); an employee may be asked to work more than an 8-hour shift depending on the length of the snow event. Temporary employees may work full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or they work a snow & ice shift; snow & ice shifts can occur on regularly scheduled work days and scheduled days off, including Saturday and Sunday. Emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow & ice shift, filling in for regular operators who are not available. Hours of work may include overtime, various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called. Perform pre-operational equipment, preventative maintenance tasks, and process inspections. Perform quality and sanitation functions per Quality Program and Master Sanitation Schedule. Report maintenance and quality opportunities with shift supervisors and/or managers. Interface with plant ERP system to assure inventory control, lot traceability, and tracking. Maintains a clean, safe, orderly work area. Forming Utility Operator Specific Tasks & Responsibilities Supports Forming Operator, learning their role and providing a variety of tasks both mechanical and manual in nature.
