Headquartered in Boston, Veolia has more than 10,000 employees working at more than 350 locations across North America. **Job Description** **Position Purpose:** The Operator I operates and maintains sludge, dewatering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in refinery/industrial facility to separate feed stocks to contract specifications and return to client/designated location. **Primary Duties/Responsibilities:** + Perform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures and practices. + Commitment to promoting and creating a safety culture and positive work environment. + Model professional behavior; report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to work. + Work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule that will include nights, weekends, holidays. + Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets. + Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate, maintain, install, and repair equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment. + Monitor control panels, adjusts valves and gates. + Monitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned areas. + Monitor and document operating conditions/observations and data in shift log daily. + Diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per procedure. + Verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor or designee and take corrective actions. + Ability to work independently in compliance with given instructions and direction. + Perform grab and go field tests in order to adjust chemical dosages for processes. + Comply with appearance and dress policies to ensure a safe and professional work environment. + Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy, work practices, and customer. + Maintain a safe, neat and clean work environment this includes: work area and equipment. + Care for and maintain buildings and grounds. + Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. **Work Environment:** + Work in loud, cold, hot, wet and dry environments; both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather. + Perform office duties as necessary; fill out paperwork, monitor computer screens, online training, etc. **Qualifications** **Education/Experience/Background:** + High School Diploma/GED is required. + Some experience in a related position and environment preferred. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** + Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). + Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. + Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control. + Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site. **Required Certification/Licenses/Training:** + Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. + Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check. **Physical Requirements:** + Frequent sitting, standing, and walking around the job site; stepping over curbs, climbing ladders, stairs, potentially slippery/uneven surfaces, kneeling and crawling to access work areas. + Occasional kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with assistance. + Frequent manual labor and use of hand tools for maintenance activities; shovels, brooms, pipe wrenches, air operated tools, pressure washers, water hoses. + Occasional operation of heavy equipment; forklift, passenger trucks. + Performing all tasks listed while wearing Personal Protective Equipment: hard hat, coveralls, safety glasses, gloves, steel toe leather/rubber boots.
