What You'll Need
Required:

MnDOT District 6 may fill up to 32 temporary and/or emergency snowplow operator positions at the Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associates classifications in various district truck stations throughout the district. These positions will be filled in the following locations:

During a snow & ice season a snowplow shift is typically an A shift (12:00am-12:00pm) or B shift (12:00pm-12:00am); an employee may be asked to work more than an 8-hour shift depending on the length of the snow event. Temporary employees may work full-time or part-time (2-5 days, M-F, 7:00am - 3:30pm) or they work a snow & ice shift; snow & ice shifts can occur on regularly scheduled work days and scheduled days off, including Saturday and Sunday. Emergency employees are intermittent fill in drivers; they work a snow & ice shift, filling in for regular operators who are not available. Hours of work may include overtime, various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called. Some examples of work are listed below and not limited to the following:
Function Snow and Ice:
+ Maintains roadways for snow and ice control
+ Prepares and inspects winter equipment
+ Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup
+ Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing chemical
+ Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management
+ performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles
New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM). A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last five (5) years may disqualify a candidate or three (3) serious traffic violations during any 12 month period of time will disqualify a candidate.
**Minimum Qualifications**

**Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:**
+ **Experience:** One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience).
OR
+ **Education:** Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.
AND
+ Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
**Transportation Associate Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Valid Commercial Drivers' License, Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

**Preferred Qualifications**

**Physical Requirements**
The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects such as 50-pound bags. This job also may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or let controls. This job will require strenuous manual labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.
