INTERNAL (LABORERS UNION MEMBERS ONLY) HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - GR. D HIGHWAY / FORESTRY DEPARTMENT Full-time 37 hours per week Pay: $25.44 - $32.23 per hour Skilled manual work in the care of public shade trees, street trees and urban forests including the application of pesticides, herbicides and the use of equipment such as an aerial bucket truck, a wood chipper, etc.. Skilled in the maintenance of utility and drainage easements and right of ways. All other related urban forestry and Public Works tasks as required. Works under the direction of the Forestry Lead Person and Highway General Foreman. High School graduate with five years' experience in tree maintenance and pest control, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of the use of common insecticides and herbicides. Ability to work effectively in precarious positions and at considerable heights above ground. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions. Demonstrated skills in operating specialized equipment including truck mounted bucket hoist, backhoe and rubber tired loader. Working knowledge of safety procedures, techniques and regulations appropriate to urban forestry operations. Ability to safely operate all equipment required to maintain the Town's urban forest. Possession and maintenance of a CDL truck driver's license, hoisting license and Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators license. Pesticide application license additional courses in forestry or related fields preferred. Certification as an Arborist from a recognized accredited organization.
