Operating Engineers will be responsible for the overall maintenance, operation, and cleaning associated with the operation of a large industrial utilities' facility providing Steam, Heated Hot Water, Instrument and Zero Air, Compressed Air, Chilled Water, and other services to an industrial facility. Qualifications

In high-pressure boiler and pressure vessel construction or repair,

Ten plus years of facility maintenance experience preferred.
Ability to safely operate portable hand and power tools.
Must have strong written and verbal communication, detail oriented and must have extensive knowledge on Microsoft Office Suite.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to operate water and wastewater treatment facilities in compliance with federal, state and local regulations for the operation of water treatment, distribution, storage facilities and/or wastewater collection, lift stations or treatment facilities.
This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential Functions:

Assists in the performance of regular and unscheduled repairs and maintenance on plant equipment and machinery; conducts weekly checks of the treatment plant; rotates equipment; changes and connects chlorine and other specialized water treatment plant equipment; monitors chemical feed equipment, operates solids processing equipment; and operates load lugging trucks.
Collects potable water and wastewater samples and performs laboratory analysis such as pH, turbidity, chlorine levels, fluoride levels, dissolved oxygen levels, and total suspended solids, total volatile solids, and temperature on grab samples; and calibrates lab equipment and instruments.
Monitors the SCADA systems for any changes that may affect the plant processes such as pressure changes, chemical pumps faulting out, distribution storage tank levels, chemical tank levels, turbidity levels, and filter function.
Prepares reports and records testing results; completes forms and various paperwork; enters data into the computer; and takes telephone calls and responds to customer complaints.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment (both inside the facilities and on the grounds) per OSHA and DeKalb County standards.
Assists in the training of entry level operators and lower classifications of operators (II and III) as needed. Participates in continuing education classes and testing to maintain and renew Georgia and DeKalb County certification and licensure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:

The Plant Operator position centers around a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant equipment and systems. The Plant Operator provides technical understanding of and practical experience with the distribution, production, and components associated with multiple electrical, motor, water, air, heating and cooling systems. Plant Operators operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on most equipment and systems in the plant. This individual will be responsible for following safety programs for all facility activities and equipment, as well as assisting and maintaining trouble call procedures for facilities. This position requires working a 12-hour rotating shift, including overnight, weekend and possible holidays, and be available for call-in work.
The essential functions of the position include:
Operate, maintain, and perform basic repair on most equipment and systems in the plant
Apply technical understanding of and practical experience with the operation of distribution, production and components associated with:
Steam, condensate, chilled water, electrical motors, paralleling switch gear, motor control centers, condenser systems, variable frequency drives, reciprocating engines, generators, compressed air and compressors, pumps, chillers, air handlers, boilers, cooling towers, pneumatic and low voltage control systems
Performs preventative maintenance procedures to assure the plant equipment is in good working condition
Operate Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) equipment
Start-up activities including trouble shooting
Positively interact with customers as needed
Maintain tracking for long-term performance evaluations and adherence to baseline requirements
Safety training; lock out/tag out
SDS administration
Follow proper procedure for all maintenance activities
Assist and maintain establishment of maintenance and work order procedures for the facility that effectively communicate problems and recommend a course of action
Your background includes:
High School Diploma or GED
Three to six (3-6) years of related experience
4th Class Power Engineer NIULPE License Certification or higher (achieved before or within 18 months of employment in the position)
Work 12-hour rotating shift schedule, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Basic computer skills required including data input, work order coordination and daily logs
Must be within a reasonable commute from our office at: 260 Lee Street, Atlanta, GA 30310
