DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
Tulare Fire Department is comprised of two divisions: Administration and Fire Suppression.
ADMINISTRATION DIVISION: Tulare City Fire Department is responsible for enforcing local, state and federal fire safety laws. The Prevention Bureau within the admin division, achieves this by conducting annual fire & life safety inspections of all existing buildings that are open to the public. The prevention bureau performs plan reviews for safety compliance of all new commercial, industrial and multi-residential structures. Plan review consists of checking plans for fire safety features such as: fire sprinkler, and fire alarm plans. The prevention bureau is also very involved with the storage and sale of safe & sane fireworks, as well as large public gatherings most notably the World Ag Expo.
SUPPRESSION DIVISION: The Fire Suppression Division consists of forty-one (40) uniformed personnel. The primary responsibility of the fire suppression and first responder units are to respond to fire, emergency medical, rescue, and life safety emergencies within Tulare. Emergency Services are delivered through four (4) in-service fire companies from three (3) strategically located fire stations within the city. Three of the fire companies are staffed with three personnel (captain, engineer, and firefighter/paramedic) and one patrol unit is staffed with two personnel (captain and engineer/paramedic). A division chief is on duty each day to perform as an incident commander, supervise fire suppression activities, and provide personnel supervision.

POSITION OVERVIEW

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the working-level class in the fire service series that performs all normal fire suppression, basic medical emergency, hazardous materials, and other emergency response activities. Will be responsible for the conduct and personal appearance of both team members. While working with an EMT-I, acts as Senior Personnel while on/off the unit (i.e., the Paramedic will be responsible for the ambulance as well as the station duties and safety). He/she is responsible for equipment maintained on the unit. If any equipment (equipment listed on the daily check-off list) is missing after he/she has gone off duty, he/she will be responsible for the replacement of that equipment.
Responsible for the correct and timely completion of all paperwork (including invoices, PCR forms, checklists, etc.)
Responsible daily for signing in and out of all controlled drugs and documentation of any discrepancies concerning the controlled drug.
Responsible for maintaining vehicle security when personnel are not in attendance of the vehicle (i.e. the vehicle must remain locked at all times with controlled drugs double locked).
Is responsible for all radio transmissions by either team member.
Responsible for the condition of the assigned vehicle, including cleanliness inside and out, and good condition of all equipment.
He/she will be in charge of the vehicle(s) and equipment assigned to the team and is responsible for the vehicle(s) and equipment for the duration of the shift.
Will report to their supervisor, in writing, any and all malfunctions of, and/or damage to any equipment, whether or not the member was using or operating the equipment at the time of the damage or malfunction.
Responsible for the team response to, and compliance with, all dispatch orders or directions.
He/she is also responsible to assure that all ambulances are parked inside the garages during the night hours and during adverse weather conditions.
The Paramedic is responsible for preparing and instructing EMS related continuing education classes as assigned by the QI/Training Coordinator.
The Paramedic is responsible for attending all mandatory training and meeting sessions as required by the company.
The Paramedic is responsible for attending the required number continuing education credits each certification period. Adhere to all OSHA, State and Federal regulations.

2 * Coordinates staffing needs with the Clinical Manager and/or Staffing Coordinator/Nursing Supervisor. Ensures accurate reporting of census and patient acuity for staffing purposes.
