    The Certified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for executing specialty pharmacy workflow and managing all components of the prescription process under the direction of the Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician and the Pharmacist in Charge. This includes strict adherence to established procedures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuity of care. Given the complexity of the workflow and the high cost of medications handled, precision and accountability are essential. Effective communication within the team supports safe, timely, and affordable medication therapy. The technician must be able to identify what needs to be done, take initiative, and appropriately prioritize competing tasks to ensure the highest level of patient service. Promptly and accurately enter prescriptions in priority fill Efficiently contact patients in print que to determine desired priority and communication expectations accordingly Print and count prescriptions with defined priority in print que using proper prioritization Monitor all ques within Pioneer to ensure all prescriptions are being actively managed with timeliness Exhibit excellent customer service in every patient interaction, with attention to both verbal and nonverbal communication Greet all patients entering the pharmacy promptly with intent to help and a positive attitude Perform tasks at all pharmacy workflow stations in accordance with expectations outlined in pharmacy procedures including but not limited to priority fill, print que, fill, point of sale, delivery, and shipping. Maintain temperatures in the pharmacy between 69-78 degrees. Retrieve and save electronic temperature logs every 90 days. Maintain pharmacy inventory by establishing par levels, cycle counting, ordering medications and supplies, verifying and documenting receipt, and checking for and removing expired medications. Receive inbound and make outbound calls. Monitor incoming emails and answer, forward, or follow up as required. Complete prior authorizations using CoverMyMeds and document outcomes in pharmacy system. Triage scheduled prescriptions fills and contact patients to determine preferred dispensing method Read, understand, and complete related actions prompted by automated pharmacy reports Communicate selected prior authorization criteria, medication benefit coverage, and formulary alternatives to physicians and other staff. Research, resolve, and document physician or patient inquiries and grievances and provide verbal or written results to prescriber, patient, and/or management. Actively participate in monthly pharmacy team meetings Complete action items and accomplish goals set forth by pharmacy leadership. Perform other administrative duties as required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Must have an active Pharmacy Technician license issued by Alabama Board of Pharmacy, PTCB certification within 6 months of hire, free of any discipline, and attend any CPU's required to maintain license/certification. 2 years prior experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy. Must have the ability to steward prescriptions through the dispensing cycle while maintaining proper communication with all involved parties, internal and external to UCA. Must display advanced reasoning and critical thinking skills Computer Literacy - 40 words per minute at 95% accuracy Must show the ability to work independently and within a team excelling in communication, collaboration, adaptability, respect, and service Must show proficiency in use of pharmacy dispensing software(PioneerRx), electronic health record(AllScripts), supporting applications(Delivery App, CoverMyMeds, UPS WorldShip, Endicia, AssistPoint, Providerflow, Nextiva) and Microsoft applications(Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.). Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines. Maintain incubation schedules of environmental monitoring sample plates and document results in associated reports and batch records. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Technician is responsible for ensuring safe preparation and dispensing of intravenous hazardous and non-hazardous medications. Technician should practice correct usage of PPE, including compliance with regulatory requirements mandating PPE be donned across all aspects of hazardous drug handling. Technicians should play a role in embracing CSTDs for preparation of anticancer medications, including involvement in the evaluation process and familiarity with regulatory standards. Technicians shall be fully trained in the storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous drugs per employer, state, and national guidelines; this training shall occur before preparing or handling hazardous preparations and the effectiveness of the training should be verified by testing specific techniques. All training should be documented, and competency should be reassessed and documented at least every 12 months. Technicians should be trained on hazardous drug exposure and spill control, including treatment of individuals accidentally exposed to hazardous medications and on the disposal of hazardous medications. Technicians may aid in CADD pump preparation upon demonstration of competency. Technicians should support multiple aspects of investigational drug management, including inventory, information and record keeping, and preparation of investigational products for dispensing. Technicians should minimize medication waste through monitoring compliance with policies and procedures including dose rounding and optimizing drug use through schedule coordination. Pharmacy technicians should carry out daily purchasing activities and assist with vendors, group purchasing organizations, and manufacturer contracts. Technicians should promote inventory control strategies, including minimization of expired products, promotion of adequate medication turnover, and alignment with product-line purchasing, to ensure inventory control management of high-cost items while reducing overall stock supplies. When receiving products, pharmacy technicians should employ special precautions for hazardous substances and ensure fidelity of drug product specific shipping and handling requirements. Technicians should contribute to drug shortage management, including managing purchasing strategies and investigating procurement of alternative products. Technicians should leverage information technology resources to improve quality and efficiency of Alabama Oncology, including preparation of reports from clinical and automation systems to facilitate organizational, departmental, and individual decision making. Technicians should evaluate monitoring for equipment and storage facilities based on current standard operating protocols for continued fidelity checks of equipment for medication storage, compounding, and delivery. Education, Experience, and Licensure Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician at the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy. Understanding and demonstrating proper aseptic technique as outlined in USP and USP . Compounding and dispensing hazardous medications is highly preferred. Technicians may attain the necessary knowledge base in a variety of ways, ranging from on-the-job training to online or publication-based training, employer-based structured didactic learning, and formalized study with programs that have proper accreditation status. Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document the oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used in this facility and that may be ordered for resident use by the attending physician or the Medical Director. Verify that any medications brought into the facility by a newly admitted resident are examined and identified by the attending physician or the facility pharmacy or pharmacist Follow facility policies and procedures regarding the destroying of medications; assist in carrying out these rules under the direction of the facility pharmacist or Director of Nursing Services, including the documentation requirements. Follow the labeling policies and practices of the facility. Ensure that all medications administered are properly labeled. Follow facility procedures in regard to charting medications.
