Description
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week phlebotomy float position.
Must be able to work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. Flexibility with hours is needed for clients who may start earlier or stay later than the posted hours.
Must be comfortable driving to client sites in the Fenton, Saline and Howell, MI area. Base hourly rate includes float differential compensation.
The Client Office Phlebotomist-Float reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
* Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age related standards.
* Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
* Identifies need for patient medical assistance and call code as appropriate.
* Reviews/Records refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Areas of concern are recorded through the Corrective Action Log and reported to maintenance for repair. Findings are reported to supervisor or manager.
* Use manual requisitions and labels specimens appropriately.
* Label and process specimens according to establishes protocols and policies.
* Must effectively procure blood specimens from infant, adult, geriatric, and wheelchair bound patients.
* Must demonstrate competency for age related responsibilities.
* Understands the operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job.
* Follows up with all outstanding orders on manifest log, and communicates all timed, completed or uncompleted draws/charges/results to the client office staff and performs other duties as assigned.
* Requests/obtains written physician orders with all required information necessary for lab services requested and accurately orders laboratory tests in computer system(s).
* Prioritizes tasks and is able to multi-task.
* Performs and collects phlebotomy specimens within cost and maintains efforts of a less than 2 percent recollection or cancellation rate.
* Follows TJC National Patient Safety goals in regard to two patient identifiers and handwashing.

Qualifications
Required:
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
Preferred:
* Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient's types.
* Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge.
* Familiar with medical EMR systems.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.

Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and ensure proper labeling and handling of all specimens.
Respond to stat, timed, and routine collection orders in a timely manner across all hospital units, including inpatient, outpatient, ED, and ICU settings.
Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory and ensure proper documentation in the LIS (Laboratory Information System).
Maintain phlebotomy carts and trays, ensuring adequate stock of supplies and cleanliness.
Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality assurance protocols.
Demonstrate professionalism and compassion while interacting with patients, families, and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program preferred.
National Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) preferred
Prior hospital-based phlebotomy experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Must be able to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods.

This is a part-time, 24 hours per week, phlebotomy position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with weekend availability. Flexibility with hours is needed for clients who may start earlier or stay later than the posted hours. Must be comfortable driving to client sites in various areas of East Lansing and Eaton Harbor. High school diploma or equivalent
Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency is preferred
Previous experience as a phlebotomist
May consider inexperienced candidates that have completed a phlebotomy training program
Proven track record in providing exceptional customer service
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
Ability to work independently or in a team environment
Comfortable working under minimal supervision
Reliable transportation required
Flexibility to work overtime as needed
Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
