Observes/inspects buildings' hydronic/steam heating and hot water systems to detect malfunctions; makes adjustments/repairs and performs required maintenance such as replacing thermostats, heating elements and other controls, changing filters, blowing down boilers, adding chemical treatment, replacing traps, burners, repacking valves, lubricating motors, pumps, and bearings, removal/replacement of piping (cast iron, copper, steel, brass, lead, glass, vitrified clay, plastic) and the tightening or adjustment of pipe fittings.
Responds to and corrects deficiencies identified in service order work slips executing new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance and avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable repairs, while meeting manufacturers' installation specifications and local plumbing codes/requirements.
Other duties as assigned - for example, provides help and assistance to other department trade group members as needed in the completion of work tasks; provides appropriate support in major campus events such as commencement and opening of school.

Valid Massachusetts Journeyman Plumber's license; will attend safety training as required by Management.

Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and will attend safety training as required by management.
