REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Must be 21 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy (or valid waiver) and current California P.O.S.T. certification prior to the date of appointment. Must have a valid California Driver License. Working knowledge of current law enforcement methods and procedures. Working knowledge of current criminal codes and laws. Effective interpersonal skills to resolve a wide variety of sensitive situations. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports. Demonstrated ability to think and act effectively in emergency and sensitive situations. Possession of a P.O.S.T. THE POSITION
This is a non-safety, non-sworn, at-will position. Applicants must meet the minimum T-score of 42 and acceptance of other agency's T-score is subject to verification with the testing agency.

Submit National Testing Network (NTN) FrontLine National Written examination test results through NTN. Test must have been administered within one year of application submittal. Applicants must meet the minimum scores of: Video (65), Reading (70), Writing (70) and acceptance of NTN test scores are subject to verification with National Testing Network.

Register yourself to participate in the NTN FrontLine National Written examination administered by NTN as soon as possible. Major Duties
Under general supervision, the PoliceOfficer is responsible for a wide range of responsibilities that support the safety, security, and overall well-being of the campus community. The role involves high visibility, proactive engagement, rapid response to emergencies, detailed documentation, and careful execution of law enforcement procedures. Officers operate in dynamic environments, interacting with students, faculty, staff, and visitors while ensuring adherence to laws and maintaining a positive, service-oriented presence.
Implement community policing concepts through quantifiable and measurable activities to create police/community partnerships, thereby gaining confidence and building credibility with the campus community.
Patrol the campus by vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot for criminal activity, traffic and parking violations, safety hazards, and citizens in need of assistance. Conduct crime suppression activities.
Policeofficers respond to and provide medical assistance with equipment such as First Aid kits, AEDs, etc., to injured and ill people on campus and at traffic accidents near or on campus.
Promotes programs and services, such as participating at fairs and orientations, conducting risk reduction presentations to students, faculty, staff, parents, and the greater community…
Serve as the first to respond to a report of a crime in progress.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Applicants must satisfactorily meet the current employment standards of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and CSUN Minimum Standards of Employment and Training.
Must be free of any felony convictions: have good moral character; be a high school graduate or equivalent; meet pre-employment requirements, including physical exam with drug testing, psychological exam, and pass a comprehensive POST background investigation.
Eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California.
Successful completion of the California POST Basic Course and possession of a California POST Basic Certificate are required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of community-policing principles and the ability to build trust through proactive partnerships and problem-solving. Skilled in evaluating potential criminal activity, identifying risk factors, and recommending effective prevention strategies. Able to conduct field interviews, assess crowd dynamics, and recognize conditions that may escalate into safety concerns.
Strong ability to respond promptly to medical emergencies and hazardous conditions, applying proficiency in First Aid and CPR, and coordinating effectively with medical personnel. Skilled in identifying environmental hazards such as chemical spills or unsafe conditions and initiating corrective actions. Proficient in patrol operations across various modes of transportation.
Knowledge of campus safety best practices, including identifying safety hazards, security deficiencies, and unauthorized activity during building and grounds patrols. Ability to remain informed about crime trends and implement prevention strategies. Skilled in delivering safety education, promoting departmental programs, and engaging with students, staff, faculty, parents, and visitors.
Ability to conduct thorough investigations by assessing active crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects, and determining appropriate enforcement actions. Skilled in preparing clear and accurate documentation, including reports, citations, and arrest paperwork. Competent in evidence handling, crime scene preservation, and safely transporting arrestees, juveniles, or individuals experiencing mental-health crises while adhering to legal and procedural requirements.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $8069 - $9468 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $6418 - $9468 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; rotating shifts that include nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Under general supervision of the Exposition Police Sergeant, Exposition PoliceOfficers will perform the duties of an operational Peace Officer [Penal Code 830.3(r] at Exposition Park as well as during all other held and operated on the facility grounds. A volunteer organization of individuals who are utilized to supplement the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law enforcement manpower. Like full-time deputies, reserve deputies are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. In most cases, reserves are assigned to the same duties as full-time deputies. AGE
Must be at least 20½ years of age at time of application and 21 years of age by the LASD Reserve Deputy Sheriff academy graduation.
CITIZENSHIP
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Applicants will be required to submit their documents during the background process.
EDUCATION
Graduation from a U.S. high school or evidence of equivalent U.S. high school proficiency or higher education. Evidence of equivalent high school proficiency includes having successfully passed the GED, TASC, HiSET, or CHSPE.

LICENSE

RESCHEDULING PROCEDURE

STRUCTURED INTERVIEW (SI)
Candidates who pass the VPAT will participate in a P.O.S.T. mandated structured interview (SI). If a candidate does not pass the SI, they must wait three (3) months to reapply.
PRE-INVESTIGATIVE QUESTIONNAIRE
Candidates will be required to complete a Pre-Investigative Questionnaire that will consist of questions regarding narcotics use, theft, arrest history, domestic violence, and driving history. Examples of disqualifying factors include but are not limited to: failure to appear to scheduled appointments, felony convictions, job related misdemeanor convictions, certain serious traffic convictions or patterns, suspended license, driving under the influence, poor credit or employment history, substance abuse, and active criminal probation.

Candidates will be required to complete a P.O.S.T. mandated Personal History Statement (PHS). ACADEMY TRAINING
The Sheriff's Academy is a training program and is approved by the California Department of Corrections and the California Commission on P.O.S.T. Classes are conducted two evenings a week and some weekends and holidays. The Academy days may be conducted in shifts. Recruits generally spend additional time outside of class preparing for class and studying for exams. Recruits in the Sheriff's Academy will participate in classroom and scenario-based training, which will include: the interpretation and application of laws, report writing, radio operations, first aid and CPR, defensive tactics, handcuffing and searching techniques, use of the baton, the safe handling, care, and use of firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and Department regulations and laws regarding the use of force and firearms. Throughout the academy program, recruits will also participate in regular physical training. Knowledge, skill and task competence will be assessed. Academy success will be determined through multiple-choice and true/false tests, role playing exercises and performance, physical ability, and work sample tests.

The ideal candidate will be a highly trained individual capable of handling firearms responsibly and exercising sound judgment in potentially dangerous situations. The Armed Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment through vigilant surveillance, enforcing security protocols, and responding promptly to any threats or emergencies.
Responsibilities:
Patrol and Monitor: Conduct regular patrols of assigned areas, both on foot and using vehicles, to ensure the security of the premises. Monitor surveillance equipment and alarms to detect and respond to suspicious activity or breaches.
Enforce Security Procedures: Implement and enforce security procedures, including access control measures, visitor screening, and identification checks. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
Deter Criminal Activity: Act as a visible deterrent to potential criminal activity by maintaining a professional and authoritative presence. Respond assertively to any attempts to breach security or endanger the safety of individuals on the premises.
Handle Emergencies: Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, or disturbances. Take appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and property.
Use of Firearms: Safely and responsibly carry and handle firearms in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Be proficient in the use of firearms and use them only as a last resort in situations where there is an imminent threat to life or property.
Report Writing: Document all security-related incidents, activities, and observations in detailed reports. Maintain accurate records of patrols, incidents, and any security-related occurrences.
Collaborate with Authorities: Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and emergency responders as necessary. Provide assistance and support during investigations or legal proceedings.
Customer Service: Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with employees, visitors, and clients. Provide assistance and information as needed to ensure a positive and secure experience for all.
Requirements:
Armed Security Certification: Must possess a valid Guard Card and Exposed Firearms permit.
Driver's License: Must possess a current valid Driver's License and are required to submit a copy of your driving records.
Equipped gears: Level 3A Body Armor, Level 3 Holster, Duty Belt, Handcuffs
2 out of the 3 Nonlethals: Baton, OC Spray, Taser and their certifications are
HIGHLY DESIRED
Firearms Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in the safe handling and use of firearms. Must have completed firearms training courses and be able to pass regular proficiency assessments.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, walking, and physical exertion. Must be in good physical condition and capable of responding effectively to emergencies.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain composure in stressful situations.
Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to assess situations quickly, analyze risks, and take appropriate action to maintain security and safety.
Ethical Conduct: High level of integrity and ethical conduct. Must adhere to professional standards of conduct and uphold confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security-related field.
Additional certifications or training in first aid, CPR, or emergency response.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures governing armed security operations.
