1948

Awards associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and first professional degrees (branch locations in Arecibo, Guayana, Mayaguez). Founded 1948.

1949

In 1949 he published a book of short stories, Los usurpadores (“The Usurpers”), in which he examines the innate immorality of one person subjugating another to his will.

1950

The university's original name (Catholic University of Santa Maria) was changed in 1950 to Catholic University of Puerto Rico with the graduation of its first class.

1959

He continued to write in Spanish, developing, as in Tecnología y libertad (1959; “Technology and Freedom”), his ideas on reconciling individual conscience to society and on restating ancient moral values for modern times.

1961

In 1961, the university started the School of Law providing graduate law studies and student exchange programs with other law schools in the United States and in Spain.

1976

In 1976, the university started the School of Medicine as a graduate medical education program, which, when reorganized, became an independent private institution now known as the Ponce Health Sciences University.

2009

In 2009, the university opened a School of Architecture.

2010

The University is also home to a Law School, and in August 2010 it inaugurated a School of Architecture in downtown Ponce.
