Purpose Statement
The PrincipalScientist - Dairy is a subject matter expert (SME) within the Global Toppings, Creamers, and Culinary Solutions (TCCS) Center of Excellence (COE), as part of the Research, Innovation, and Compliance (RIC) organization. This role will lead cross-functional and cross-regional transformation of dairy UHT, emulsions, and micellar casein platforms to unlock new revenue streams, accelerate time-to-market, and ensure global compliance with food safety and quality standards. The role supports delivering 2030 Vision by leading transformation of dairy technologies and enabling differentiated, scalable product solutions and mentoring global teams.
This role will be based at our WHQ in Buffalo, NY, with expected travel of up to 30% per year.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
• Lead strategic initiatives focused on dairy and emulsion-based technologies to design and execute innovative, scalable product solutions that align with global business growth objectives.
• Identify and propose new global platforms and technologies that address evolving consumer needs, sustainability goals, and market dynamics. This includes leveraging expertise in dairy systems, UHT, emulsions, and ingredient functionality to unlock scalable innovation opportunities.
• Monitor global trends and emerging technologies-from alternative dairy sources and clean-label formulations to digital manufacturing and precision fermentation-to inform long-term category strategy and innovation roadmaps.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Engineering, Marketing, and Supply Chain to ensure technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and market relevance.
• Collaborate with regional teams to develop and enforce food safety and quality assurance protocols across dairy manufacturing operations, raw milk handling, supplier compliance, and supply chain auditing. Ensure compliance with local regulations (e.g., FSMA, EFSA, GB standards) while maintaining global consistency and safeguarding product integrity.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies and Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory (FSQAR) frameworks to proactively mitigate risks and enable successful project execution across regions.
• Monitor and analyze global quality metrics, consumer complaints, and non-conformance trends to drive continuous improvement.
• Lead the development of global standards, ingredient and product specifications, and testing methodologies.
• Develop and implement new product platforms through scientific and technological advancements.
• Conduct patent landscaping and competitive benchmarking to identify white space and protect innovation.
• Lead invention disclosures and patent filings for novel processes, ingredients, and formulations.
• Ensure global IP alignment across joint ventures, external partners, global cross-functional and RIC teams to safeguard Rich Products' innovation pipeline, enhance competitive advantage, and support long-term category growth.
• Provide technical guidance and strategic direction to RIC Innovation teams and Business Units.
• Implement global technical strategies to protect and grow the category.
• Support Merger & Acquisition (M&A) activities through technical due diligence and capability assessments.
• Foster strong partnerships across departments including Marketing, Sales, Operations, and other RIC CoEs.
• Collaborate with Global Science & Technology and Digital teams to explore new perspectives and solutions.
• Represent the organization in external forums to position Rich Products as a global leader in assigned categories.
• Deliver technical training across local markets and support the development of global talent.
• Mentor cross-functional teams in design thinking, agile methodologies, and innovation best practices to accelerate dairy based product development and problem-solving.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
• Degree in Dairy Science and Technology, Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Technology, or a related field (e.g., Dairy Chemistry, Food Chemistry).
• Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of industrial/applied research experience.
• Master's degree with 8+ years of industrial/applied research experience.
• Ph.D. with 7+ years of industrial/applied research experience.
• Proven experience in dairy systems, food emulsions, UHT technologies, and ingredient functionality.
• Working knowledge of international food safety regulations and standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, FSMA, GFSI, ISO).
• Experience with supplier auditing and raw material risk management is preferred.
• Demonstrated progressive technical leadership in R&D, innovation, and product development.
• Strong track record of innovation and commercialization in the food industry.

COMPENSATION

Position Summary
A ResearchScientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Surtees to study pathways of DNA metabolism mediated by the mismatch repair (MMR) complex Msh2-Msh3. These pathways include post-replicative MMR, double-strand DNA break repair (DSBR) and triplet repeat (TNR) dynamics using the model system Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The project involves the development of cutting-edge approaches, with a combination of in vitro protein biochemistry and in vivo genetic analysis. The Surtees lab provides a collegial environment and has trained a diverse group of people over the years. We welcome scientists from all backgrounds and we mentor trainees at all levels.
Specific Job Responsibilities include:

Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time Senior Research Fellow to manage analytical geochemistry research facilities and instrumentation and conduct research with faculty within the Department of Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The Senior Research Fellow will manage the Cosmogenic Nuclide and X-ray Analytical Laboratores in support of research in geochemistry, geomorphology, volcanology, sedimentology, mineralogy,and petrology. Duties include sample preparation, mineral separation, wet chemistry, and operation and maintenance of a PANalytical Zetium Ultimate X-ray spectrograph and an ITRAX XRF core scanner.
The Senior Research Fellow will be primarily responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the facilities, including preparing samples, conducting high quality analyses, scheduling and training of internal and external users, maintaining and servicing facilities and
instruments, and ordering supplies. The Senior Research Fellow will work both independently and in collaboration with undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and professors in the two labs. Candidates with geoanalytical experience, including backgrounds in either
cosmogenic nuclide geochemistry or XRF elemental analysis, are encouraged to apply, and training will be provided for skills needed to manage both laboratories.
Essential Functions
Conduct research in collaboration with faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
Preparation of rock, soil, and sediment samples for cosmogenic nuclide and elemental analysis, including crushing, splitting, sieving, and powdering.
Work with chemicals, including hydrofluoric acid, and high temperature furnaces in environments with noise and high temperature; heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing.
Operation, maintenance, and repair of a PANalytical Zetium (Ultimate edition) XRF.
Elemental Analyzer and a Cox Instruments ITRAX XRF core-scanner for analysis of major and trace element concentrations in earth materials, including rock, soil, and sediment cores.
Physical and chemical processing of geological samples in a clean room to produce purified extracts of beryllium and aluminum for cosmogenic nuclide measurements.
Fusion of powdered samples using platinum crucibles, fluxes and torches or high temperature furnaces.
Operation of an Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES), including preparation of calibration solutions from standards.
Operation and maintenance of a high purity Germanium gamma counter.
Strong organizational skills, including ability to follow detailed procedures, record keeping, data reduction, quality control, uncertainty analysis, sample archiving, and ability to meet deadlines.
Assisting with development of analytical methods.
Preparing and analyzing samples submitted by external users.
Training and supervising facility users in laboratory methods, instrumentation operation, and safety protocols.
Laboratory scheduling.
Instrument maintenance and repair, use and troubleshooting of instrumentation software.
Ordering supplies, billing internal and external laboratory users for analyses, managing cost center budgets.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively and create and maintain relationships with a wide range of staff, faculty, students, and off- campus constituents.
Ability to interact and communicate with Facilities and Campus Services staff regarding required maintenance and upgrades.
Conducting related duties as needed.
Other Functions

What You Will Do
The Field ResearchScientist supports and manages the day-to-day operations of the research program in an assigned territory, by working with regional Site Leads and key stakeholders to plan, establish, maintain, collect accurate agronomic data from, and harvest corn soybean, wheat, and cotton trials.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
* Must be located in or around one of the following areas: Southern New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Virginia.
* Ensure safe and efficient operation of the research program with respect to budgetary guidelines and expectations and support the site ESH program as it applies to North American Field Testing and Operations.
* Selection, preparation, and maintenance of multiple field testing sites. This requires safe driving including frequent trailer use hauling loads in excess of 10,000 lbs; pre-trip inspections and use of log books.
* Plays a vital role in trial preparation including seed processing, packaging, shipping, protocol review, trial placement, and mapping/field design.
* Maintain field trial sites as week, insect, and disease free;
* Having a confident ability in identifying key weeds, insect, and disease problems is critical, as is timely and accurate implementation of control measures;
* With the use of handheld electronic equipment and Monsanto proprietary software, collect notes on various agronomic traits (e.g. emergence uniformity, flowering date, lodging, height, maturity, shattering resistance) in a timely manner throughout the growing season;
* Harvest plots and collect samples for quality and statistical analysis; ensure harvest data is evaluated and relinquished in accordance with crop advancement deadlines to aid in product advancement decisions;
* Develop, maintain, and implement the use of controlled SOP documents, QMS procedures, and investigative protocols;
* Comply with all Monsanto regulatory compliance guidelines for Confined Release and Stewarded Trial material;
* Collaborate with other Agronomic Research Specialists, Site Leads, and Principal Investigators in order to facilitate efficient trial planning and placement;
* Sharing of ideas and techniques and quick response to issues that may arise (e.g. weather or pests affecting trials);
* Works closely with Plant Breeders, Principal Investigators, and Agronomic Research Specialist to filly understand the multiple stages of crop development and the importance of each step involved and share experiences cross-functionally as needed;
* Field selection, cooperator relations, and ability to learn research equipment operations and basic maintenance (all types), field maintenance, and data collection;
* Basic Agronomic knowledge/Crop Management knowledge;
* Technical savvy and ability to adhere to compliance and safety policies;
* Utilization of IT tools, time management, prioritization skills;
* Must be self motivated with good decision-making abilities;
* Accountable for business unit or project results through leadership and coordination across site strategy;
* Ability to prioritize and monitor projects to ensure completion within deadlines and budgets;

Purpose Statement
Rich Products, a $5.5Billion food manufacturing company, is looking for a Product Development Scientist II to join our growing R&D Team. In this role, you will be responsible for new product development, product maintenance and product improvement for our toppings, creams and culinary solutions (TCCS) category.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure successful development and commercialization of new products, product improvement or cost reductions. You will conduct routine, non-routine and complex research and development activities concerned with the chemical, biological and/or physical complexity of product formulations in order to develop new products and evaluate and improve the quality of existing products and related processes.
You will successfully partner with others cross-functionally.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
New Product Development/Product Improvements/Cost reductions
• Prepares prototype and line extension products using research lab, pilot lab, manufacturing facilities and equipment, as required. Typical project assignments involve small product line extensions and iterative new products (e.g. modifying a customized product formula to create a new product).
• Plans, organizes and completes projects of modest scope or are a segment of a larger project. Selects and/or develops appropriate methods for conducting projects and assists in designing experiments.
• Interfaces frequently with various internal departments (i.e. Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering) and customers in accomplishing project milestones.
• Selects and evaluates raw materials for experiments.
• Sets-up, operates and maintains research lab equipment.
• Works with outside labs, universities, ingredient suppliers and lab equipment vendors as needed by project activity.
• Designs and conducts complex shelf life and storage studies, including product and package performance under various conditions and makes recommendations for appropriate adjustments in product and/or package as required.

Technical Support
• Presents results of complex experiments and recommendations to various groups, both internally and externally.

• Experience in applying advanced mathematics (i.e. statistics) and their practical application required.
• Broad understanding of food science (e.g. biochemistry, microbiology, nutrition, etc.) acquired through both lecture and laboratory work.
• Demonstrated ability to apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills; with all levels within an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment.
