The Opportunity
The AI/ML team is funding and building one of the largest computing systems dedicated to nonprofit life sciences research in the world. This new effort will provide the scientific community with access to predictive models of healthy and diseased cells, which will lead to groundbreaking new discoveries that could help researchers cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of this century.
As a Scientist on the AI/ML team, you will apply and optimize state-of-the-art models in artificial intelligence and machine learning to solve important problems in the biomedical sciences aligned with our mission. You will work on a team responsible for developing and deploying ML models that use data developed by our organization and research partners all for the purpose of contributing to greater understanding of human cell function.
This role will be based out of the Chicago location.

Develop and apply state-of-the-art AI/ML method to model biological sequences and structures.
Design and implement cutting-edge computational methods for modeling 3D structures of Immune protein complexes.
In depth analysis of computational 3D biomolecular models.

The Chicago, IL base pay range for a new hire in this role is $143,000 - $181,100. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Source new ingredients and evaluate alternatives for both new product development and existing product optimization.
Supervise the Samples Coordinator to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of product samples.
Maintain sample inventory, packing materials, and area organization in compliance with SQF standards and budget targets.
Coordinate logistics for sample deliveries, including courier shipments and local van deliveries.
Partner with appliance and portion pack teams to validate new concepts and support consumer testing initiatives.
Engage with cross-functional teams including Sales, Marketing, QA, and Operations to ensure alignment and successful implementation of R&D initiatives.
Uphold company policies and regulatory requirements, promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Support internal QA programs and SQF audits by maintaining accurate R&D documentation.

Your primary role will include operation of the liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) instrumentation available in the core. These efforts will include not only operating the instrument but also assay development, sample preparation, calibration, data analysis, data management/backup and routine maintenance/trouble shooting. In addition, you will assist the director with the development and validation of new analytical methods for the quantitative analysis of large and small molecules in support of pharmacokinetic and biomarker investigations.
As a successful candidate, you will:
* Develop and apply new and established LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS analytical methods.
* Perform data analysis, maintain records, report analytical results, prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sample preparation and analysis, and assist in manuscript preparation for publications.
* Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of problems with laboratory equipment.
