**The Internship Program**
The Real Whirled Sales Development program is seeking summer sales interns who are persuasive communicators with the ability to recommend and implement tactical and strategic business approaches. Role Overview:
This position will serve as an Engineering Intern for the Technical Services Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to the System Asset Manager.
Hourly Rate:
The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor's degree.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study as assigned
* Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
* Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
* Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
* Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives
* Provide GIS mapping support (field and office)
* Assist with collecting and maintaining geospatial data for the LaPorte District pedestrian and other assets in a team setting: including curb ramps, crossing signals, pedestrian push buttons, etc.
* INDOT will provide all specialized training to perform job functions
* Approximately 80/20 Split Field/Office Work

What You'll Need for Success:
* Working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, GIS or Engineering related field
* Academic work in related field
* Relevant work experience preferred
* Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
* Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
* Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
* Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
* Analytical skills
* Ability to handle multiple projects
* Ability to operate computer tools
* Good research and writing skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
* Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
