Our Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center's Dallas-Fort Worth locations in Grapevine and North Dallas welcome fourth-year veterinary students to join us for a one-of-a-kind educational experience. Our student externs scrub in alongside board-certified surgeons for hands-on learning in a state-of-the-art facility that offers clients the most advanced surgical techniques available.
Program Overview:
The DVSC surgical externship program is open to fourth-year clinical students and available in flexible blocks based on your educational institution's requirements. You'll work closely with veterinary interns and associates on cases from intake to discharge, participate in rounds, and scrub in to assist our board-certified surgeons with neurologic, soft tissue, and orthopedic surgeries. The typical student schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also choose to participate in emergency on-call cases.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Specialist is a professional position, on whom program director's and program administrator's administrative burden may be delegated. The GME Specialist will serve as a confidential assistant to the physician training program's Program Director{s) and physician training program/s Program Administrator(s), to provide administrative support for all day-to- day functions of the training program.
The incumbent must be able to work independently and establish priorities for the daily workload of the section as well as the general duties of the training program. The incumbent will take daily direct supervision and work assignments from their assigned Program Director and Program Administrator. The incumbent must be able to perform the above-mentioned functions with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions & Duties
40% Administrative Responsibilities
* Participate in day-to-day operations of the program.
* Provides administrative support for their assigned training Program Director(s), Associate Program Director{s), Program Administrator, and House Officers.
* Assists in producing and distributing manuals for their respective physicians enrolled in the training program.
* Assists in producing and distributing annual rotation schedules and monthly changes.
* Assists in coordinating events {such as resident's lunches, retreats, orientations, and graduation banquets).
* Maintains database and/or paper files of current and alumni residents and fellows.
* Assists in coordinating CME activities, attendance, and budget.
* May provide support to additional ACGME Training programs as needed and as allowed by ACGME requirements.
* Attend meetings as necessary.
15% Evaluation Credentialing
* Assists in coordinating the distribution, tracking, and filing of their respective physician(s) enrolled in the training program, faculty, and rotation evaluations.
* Assists in drafting letters of recommendation and verification/validation of education training forms.
* Assists in tracking and verifying procedures that must be logged to verify/validate training requirements have been met.
* Assists in maintaining documentation for board eligibility and board pass rates.
* Assists in semi-annual reviews.
* Assists in tracking and monitoring resident's clinical hours.
10% House Officer Recruitment
* Partners with the Program Director and Program Administrator to establish recruitment policies.
* Assist Program Administrator in preparing for screening and inviting candidates for interview.
* Updates recruitment brochures, websites, and material provided to applicants, as required.
* Assists in coordinating interview process, ranking, and post-match activities.
* Assists in verifying Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) documentation and ensures visa requirements are met.
* Assists in coordination of information for and attends recruitment fairs.
10% Program Accreditation
* Understands the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for institutional, core, and program requirements.
* Assists in coordinating completion of Program Information Form (PIF) for ACGME site review.
* Assists in preparing the department, faculty, and physician-in-training for site visit.
* Assists in organizing the Institutional Review Subcommittee Program Annual Review (IPAR) with the institution's Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office.
10% Information Technology
* Uses internet for ACGME WebADS, Specific/Assigned Board Tracking, ERAS, NRMP, surveys, and national reports.
* Works with program management software.
* Assists in maintaining database on the programs specific enrolled physicians-in-training and alumni, as required.
* Assists in maintaining informational websites for faculty and physicians-in-training, recruiting web pages as required.
10% Human Resources
* Prepares resident vacation, sick leave, and leave of absence documentation.
* Counsels' physicians-in-training on program policies and procedures.
Non-Essential Position Functions & Duties

* Maintains educational requirements for employees.
* Completes other assigned tasks as needed.
Qualifications
The applicant must meet one of the following:
* Associate's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field with at least three (3) years of experience in a professional setting.
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field with at least one (1) year of professional experience in a professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
* Expert in Microsoft Office program.
* Three (3) or more years of experience teaching in an accredited academic medical college.
