Mental Health Cooperative is seeking psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner interns to assist in providing clinical mental health services to clients of all ages. This internship will provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in school to develop clinical skills using evidence-based practice. Under supervision of their preceptor, interns will perform direct patient care including diagnosing psychiatric illness and recommending psychotropic medication when appropriate and in accordance with standardized procedures. Interns will provide general counseling, guidance and health instruction to clients and family members. Interns will complete clinical documentation in a timely manner that is consistent with agency standards. Interns will play a role in the client's treatment team with other departments throughout the agency. Additional learning and training opportunities will be available.
Many of the clients at Mental Health Cooperative are severely and persistently mentally ill and don't have the means to pay for the treatment they need. MHC works primarily with patients who are uninsured or have TennCare, to give them the same care offered to others that will allow them to better manage their symptoms and live productive lives.
