    Cybersecurity Intern Statewide Office - Raleigh, NC Division: BITS Summary Description: The Cybersecurity intern must be actively enrolled in a Cybersecurity or approved Computer Science Degree program with an emphasis on Cybersecurity. The Cybersecurity Intern will provide those chosen practical work experience in the business IT as well as the Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity space. The interns will be exposed to cybersecurity tooling that is used by assigned electric cooperatives and will be taught how to respond to alerts as well as configuration changes and other adjustments as approved by assigned managers. Interns will learn about cybersecurity assessments and conduct mitigation and new assessments as required. There will be exposure and education to the importance of cybersecurity for day-to-day operations as well as long term impacts. Intern will be encouraged to make pro-active recommendations as they learn the environment to help mature the existing cybersecurity program. Interns will also be responsible for creating a presentation at the end of the internship to demonstrate knowledge gained and benefit provided. Interns will also be responsible for completing any required work for credit within their degree program. This position is part-time for one year; this individual will work up to 20 hours per week. Academic and Trade Qualifications: This internship program requires enrollment in an accredited university and active enrollment in a Cybersecurity or approved Computer Science Program with an emphasis on Cybersecurity. Work Experience: The only work experience requirement is work that has been completed at the current point of the degree program enrolled. Responsibilities: The intern will report to the Director of Cybersecurity and will also work with the Senior Cybersecurity Analyst to perform daily duties related to monitoring and response of alerts received. Training will be provided on tools used and how to respond to tickets and clear them upon completion of work. Beyond responding to alerts, the intern will assist with reviewing cybersecurity assessments and assisting a new assessment and needed mitigation under the guidance of the Director of Cybersecurity and the Sr. Cybersecurity Analyst. Job Knowledge: The knowledge requirement for the intern program is what has been gained from the degree program enrolled up to the start of the internship. Abilities and Skills: A general understanding of computer hardware and software and the importance of securing information within business systems. A strong desire to expand knowledge and understanding around all things related to a formal cybersecurity program. A natural desire to be proactive when recognizing security gaps and a desire to work with a team. Relationships and Contacts: Reports to: Director of Cybersecurity at NCEMC Internal Relationships: Responsible for maintaining internal relationships with the assigned cooperative staff and leadership. Working Conditions: Daily commuting to office. Work location will be in either normal office conditions or outdoors. Personal Protection Equipment and steel toe boots will be provided.
