Internship Details
Our internshipprogram gives students the opportunity to work in and with several different departments within Avista, and the program is geared around student development. Students will be assigned a formal mentor, participate in learning sessions about various parts of Avista, and join tours to Avista facilities including some of our hydroelectric dams. Our goal is to help students learn as much as possible about the utility industry. Opportunities are available in the following enterprise technology teams:
* Physical Security: Gain hands-on experience supporting security operations, emergency management, and compliance initiatives to protect Avista's energy infrastructure. Interns assist with monitoring systems, risk assessments, policy updates, and researching emerging security threats.
* Customer Fusion: Work to improve the reliability and customer experience of Avista's digital channels, including web, mobile, IVR, and customer systems. Interns analyze service data, support integrations and communications, and help identify and implement user experience improvements.
* Cybersecurity: Support Avista's cybersecurity team in safeguarding critical control systems and IT infrastructure, with exposure to industrial control systems (ICS), operational technology (OT), and enterprise cybersecurity practices. Interns assist with security event monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and deploying threat detection technologies.
* ET&S Internal Technologies: Help maintain and enhance Avista's internal technology platforms through hands-on work in operations, automation, and process improvement. Interns contribute to system reliability, configuration management, automation projects, and documentation of operational procedures.
* Innovation Lab: Join a collaborative lab environment to prototype, test, and evaluate emerging technologies that can improve grid operations and customer experiences. Interns help design and build prototypes, support pilot testing, and document findings for practical solutions.
Requirements
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full time in college earning a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Software Development, AI/Machine Learning, or another related field.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, teamwork and project management skills are a plus.

Our highly structured 10-12 week introductory course is paid and will provide candidates a working knowledge of the industry by exposing them to all aspects of the electrical distribution field through a combination of mentoring and on-the-job training. The program requires a strong commitment from each participant and encompasses, but is not limited to, warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, counter sales, sales and interpersonal skills, customer relations and CED business philosophy. Our interns will have the opportunity to work on special projects such as market sales or customer analysis, as well as, other projects custom designed by the management team and the intern.

Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
+ Current, valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
+ Authorization to work in the United States (without requiring work authorization sponsorship by CED now or in the future)
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Strong negotiation skills
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software
+ Detail oriented
+ Ability to solve problems
+ Must be a self-starter who can handle a heavy volume of work and be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time
Working Conditions:
Conditions vary based on the intern's current segment of the training and will include warehouse, office and external environments. During some segments, activities will include lifting, sorting, standing, possible extreme heat/cold conditions. Office segments may include sitting for extended periods.

Compensation Range:
The compensation range for this position is $18 to $21 hourly.
