We're seeking an Engineering Technician support the design, planning, and execution of electric utility projects in Davenport, IA . In this role, you'll help ensure electric transmission and distribution work orders are accurately designed, properly constructed, and fully documented-supporting safe, reliable service for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
You'll collaborate with engineering staff, electricians, contractors, and customers while balancing office-based design work with hands-on field inspections.
Responsibilities
Design, plan, and prepare work orders for construction, maintenance, and modification of electric transmission and distribution systems
Review work orders for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with utility standards
Conduct field visits to gather data, stake routes, and inspect work in progress
Ensure completed work is accurately reflected in drawings, GIS maps, and maintenance systems
Assist in scheduling and coordinating transmission and distribution projects; serve as project lead when assigned
Develop line designs and cost estimates for maintenance and small capital projects (Level II)
Work with customers and contractors on job sales, including cost estimates, material lists, and drawings
Monitor construction activities and approve customer billings
Respond to customer questions or concerns and communicate utility policies
Support preventive maintenance programs and generate corrective work orders as needed
Collaborate with electricians, residential customers, and commercial customers on electrical and lighting service design
Qualifications
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Engineering Technician I: Entry-level; utility experience preferred
Experience with electric transmission and distribution systems strongly preferred
Familiarity with overhead and underground electrical systems and utility equipment
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NESC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA)
Valid driver's license and ability to perform field work in all weather conditions
Preferred Skills
Experience using GIS software (Esri ArcGIS preferred) - required for Level II
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

This role supports the implementation and execution of key food safety microbiological and analytical testing by performing routine quality control activities, and executing testing using approved microbiological and analytical methods to support food safety and quality. The Production Technician Trainee for our chemical manufacturing site is responsible for the production of quality, formulated products in a safe and efficient manner. THE ROLE This position is based at assigned customer location and will move between Dubuque and Davenport to perform sampling inspections of products to ensure the highest quality products' availability to our customers. The incumbent will work with our operations teams to execute sorting / containment activities upon the identification of any defect. And help in the necessary quarantine, return, and replacement of Gates product to keep customer operations working effectively and on-time. The ability to read technical drawings and specifications is required of the incumbent to be able to inspect special characteristics that can affect the proper fit, form, and function of Gates finished goods. The ability to utilize common inspection equipment such as calipers, tape measures, micrometers, thread gages, depth gages, and gage blocks is preferred and will aid the successful candidate. Good interpersonal skills and effective communication with customer and internal personnel are essential to success in this role as well. This position reports directly to the Brantford, Canada Quality Supervisor and is vital in completing activities that improve customer satisfaction with Gates. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Quality Inspector acts as an impartial third party between the production source and the customer facility to ensure the product meets set criteria.
Operations
The Quality Inspector performs quality inspection / quality audits on incoming material using hand gaging and visual techniques to determine conformance to specifications and fitness for use.
