Performs responsible supervisory, administrative and clinical activities involving day-to-day supervision of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services or performs specialized imaging procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography. There are two (2) types of assignments in this Level of positions.
For Specialized Imaging Assignments, performs typical tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, as listed below, for special procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography in Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging or Mammography; and performs additional related Assignment Level III tasks described below, as applicable to this type of assignment.
For Supervisory Assignments, in addition to performing duties of lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the duties described below for Assignment Level III.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
Assignment Level I:
1. Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
2. Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
3. Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
4. Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
5. Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition.
6. Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
7. Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
8. Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
9. Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
Assignment Level II:
1. Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
2. Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
3. Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
4. Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
5. Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
6. Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
7. Plans, schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
8. Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
9. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.
Assignment Level III:
1. Supervises the delivery of radiological services, in accordance with established standards and procedures, for the service area or unit.
2. Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of radiological services.
3. Participates in the development of training programs for radiographic personnel, ancillary personnel and allied health care professionals. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures and equipment.
4. May perform radiologic procedures, as required.
5. Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., C.T., M.R.I., and Mammography).
6. Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department with other activities and services and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings.
7. Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment.
8. Participates in and coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
9. Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service.
10. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate Supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.
Assignment Level III
1. For Supervisory Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and two (2) years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
2. For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced- level certification for the performance of these procedures.
All Radiologic Technologists in Assignment Levels II and III shall receive a differential of $7,500 per annum to be cross-trained on different modalities of radiologic imaging and to be cross-assigned (once trained) to different imaging settings depending on patient volume and staffing needs within a facility.

Job Duties
Performs CT's obtains high quality radiographs on all patients during their shift, and assures quality of image before releasing patient; recognizes the need for and utilizes radiation protection measures in accordance with departmental policies.
Ensures STAT/ Wet Read x-rays are presented to radiologist if on site and when radiologist is not on site makes the x-rays available for review and notifies the hospitalist of the availability.
Ensures that STAT/Wet Read CT scans are given to radiologist when they are on site and sent to NightHawk/Vrad when radiologist is not on site or on call.
Ensures that equipment is in proper working order; informs appropriate personnel promptly when equipment is in need of repair. Performs QC testing if necessary.
As required, transports patients to and from X-Ray and CT rooms.
Assists patients onto CT machine or x-ray table and positions them correctly.
Utilizes all equipment permitted within the scope of their license and within the realm of their training.
Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Other Duties
Processes images by various means.
Performs required clerical work necessary to maintain patient records. Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.
Maintains a clean and orderly environment to include; CT Room, Radiology Rooms, Radiology Equipment and Radiology Accessories.
Uses other peripheral equipment as required (e.g., patient monitoring equipment, teleradiology equipment).
Participates in on-call schedule if needed. Performs other related duties as required.
Position Qualifications:
Education
Graduation from an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology; ARRT; Advanced registry in C.T. preferred.
Licensure
Current NJ license as a Registered Radiological Technologist.
American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED certification required.
Experience
One to two years of experience in Radiologic Technology required with one year of C.T. experience.
Skills
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
