This RD position is specifically for the Children's Pavilion, which is focused on a pediatric mental health patient population. This RD will work with disordered eating, ARFID, food refusal, picky eating, etc. The RD also provides coverage at the Main Hospital.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The RegisteredDietitian is responsible for providing clinical nutrition services including nutritional assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training and nutrition intervention support and consultation to patients and families. Utilizes physician-referring practitioner-driven protocols or other facility-specific processes to implement, initiate or modify orders for diet or nutrition-related actions and to manage nutrition support therapies.
Maintains standards of professional nutritional care and incorporates current evidence-based research into practice.
Facilitates and participates in providing educational programs which include but not limited to lifestyle classes, and community, professional and lay audience learning events.
Orients, mentors and trains staff and interns, as applicable.
Assists with menu planning based on diets relevant to their specialty areas in collaboration with the food service management team.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required Licenses and/or Certifications

The selected candidate must obtain and provide proof of passing these examinations within six (6) months of the date of hire. Required Education and Experience

At UPMC Western Maryland, our inpatient team manages all aspects of nutrition care across diverse patient populations, such as GI, renal, pulmonary, oncology, cardiac, surgical, and critical illness. We also have a growing outpatient clinic that provides Medical Nutrition Therapy, Diabetes Self-Management Training, Home Care, and other community programs.
This position is daylight with some flexibility regarding exact hours. The selected candidate will work occasional weekends and holidays.
Our recruitment team will also work with you to determine the best title (UPMC Dietitian or UPMC Dietitian II) and pay based on your experience. The requirements for Dietitian and Dietitian II are listed below with corresponding pay.

Dietitian Responsibilities (minimum hourly pay rate - $24.55):
+ Provides quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
+ Demonstrates effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
+ Provides appropriate nutrition education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
+ Writes orders appropriately as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
+ Formulates a Nutrition Diagnosis and identifies malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment Exam and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
+ Provides timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
+ Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units &/or committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
+ As required, professional communication skills (verbal and written) adaptable to all health literacy levels in regard to preparing education materials, presentations and other communications.
+ As required, follows outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges within regulatory requirements.
+ Participates in department-based Quality Process Improvement activities with an ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

Referring patients for assistance with nutrition resources such as financial assistance, community resources or in-home assistance.
Follow federal and state regulations.
Collect objective and subjective patient data to assess nutrition status. Responsible for a comprehensive nutrition assessment with an educational component within 30 days from patient admission to dialysis facility

Available for staff education regarding the nutritional care of the patient.
Participate in monthly interdisciplinary patient care conferences.
Assure that follow-up progress notes are written in each patient's records each month.
