This role provides comprehensive nutritional support for teen and adult patients receiving treatment for mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders in residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs. The Registered Dietitian will deliver patient-centered nutrition care using a HAES (Health at Every Size) approach and collaborate closely with clinical and medical teams to support whole-person treatment.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
Provide individualized nutritional care, including nutrition assessments, care planning, monitoring, evaluation, and enteral nutrition therapy (residential only)
Coordinate weekly meetings with patients to create meal plans and establish/assess nutrition goals using a HAES-informed approach
Monitor and assist with meal preparation and planning
Offer regular meal and snack monitoring across programs.
Program Support
Assist in developing meal and snack menus for PHP and residential programs that support treatment of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders
Develop and lead weekly nutrition education groups for patients and parents/caregivers
Maintain accurate and complete nutritional data in the EMR
Communicate with outside providers and patient family members as needed regarding nutritional needs and progress
Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary treatment team
Ensure kitchen cleanliness, organization, and adherence to food safety standards
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Dietetics program
Current Registered Dietitian (RD) license in good standing with Washington State certification
Current WA State Food Handler's Permit or ability to obtain within two weeks of hire
Prior experience working with eating disorders, trauma, chemical dependency, mood disorders, or anxiety-related conditions
Experience with EMR platforms such as Kipu, AVEA, and/or Waystar
Preferred Qualifications
Additional experience in behavioral health or specialized nutrition care
Strong empathy, emotional intelligence, and ability to support patients experiencing complex mental health challenges
Contract Length:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists.

Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing nutrition services, ordering laboratory tests, and counseling or educating patients or staff on nutrition topics.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Dietary Supervisor and/or Administrator as necessary/required concerning the operation of the Dietary Department.
Review and develop a plan of correction for dietary service deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the Administrator for their approval.
Review departmental complaints and grievances from personnel and make written reports to the Administrator of action(s) taken. Follow facility's established procedures.
Develop and implement a dietary service organization structure.
Assist the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct dietary deficiencies.
Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the Dietary Department.
Assist the Discharge Planning Coordinator in planning the dietary services portion of the resident's discharge plan.
Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
Interview residents or family members, as necessary, to obtain diet history.
Ensure that charted dietary progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the service.
Visit residents periodically to evaluate the quality of meals served, likes and dislikes, etc.
Assist in planning regular and special diet menus as prescribed by the attending physician for individual residents.
Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to assure they are in compliance with the physician's orders.
Review the dietary requirements of each resident admitted to the facility, as may be required, and assist the attending physician in planning for the resident's prescribed diet plan.
Meet with dietary personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, solicit advice from inter-department supervisors concerning the operation of the Dietary Department, assist in identifying and correct problem areas, and/or the methods of improvement of services.
Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the Dietary Department's needs.
Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate dietary services to assure that daily dietary services can be performed without interruption.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the department. Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to the department, its policies and procedures, and to his/her job position and duties.
Ensure that dietary service work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
Ensure that dietary service personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary.
