Job Description Position Summary The Scientist I performs testing activities as directed by Senior Scientist, Monograph Supervisor, or Specialty Supervisor in accordance with all applicable company and regulatory guidelines and designs experiments, operates instruments, assists other chemists, collects and interprets data, writes but also peer reviews data and/or reports especially for challenging, non-routine investigations, custom method development, method validation, unknown/material identification, failure analysis, simple de-formulations and select product testing/development work. Perform and document method transfers, development work, validations/verifications. Maintain neat and accurate records. Interact with clients to assist in selection of test methods and interpretation of test data. Assist Sales and Business Team members on quote review if requested. Design custom projects or studies, and offer interpretation, custom reports or consultation on test data. Enter testing data into LIMS and monitor for QC failures. Assist lab staff in determining corrective actions for QC failures. Review and approve laboratory analytical data including peer review Review and issue reports to clients. Issue quotations for standard testing services where existing tests/methods are utilized. Maintain chemical/reagent traceability. Support the maintenance of controlled documents related to laboratory operations/testing through editing of documents and/or reviewing revisions. Support quality system improvements through completion of Corrective and Preventive Action forms, documenting Non-Conformances and Client Complaints, and assisting with internal audit findings as assigned by Quality Manager. Support the completion of unknown and failure investigations through testing performance and/or imparting chemical knowledge. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner Performs other duties as assigned Assist with case studies, white papers if requested by Sr. Management for marketing purposes. Attend industry-appropriate symposia, training, webinars, journals to remain current on analytical techniques, new developments. As a Development Chemist - Liquid Industrial, you will be responsible for customer-facing development opportunities in basecoats and clear coats for the Industrial Coatings Liquid OEM segment. Maintains a safe environment by following CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission, CLIA, California and CAP guidelines. Communicates test information concerning methods and procedures, sample and storage requirements, TATs, days tests are performed, and QC trends. Utilizes Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) to perform tasks such as test ordering, specimen accessioning, reporting, correcting, changing, crediting, and looking up previous results. Maintains client relationships and asks as knowledge resource for external labs and submitters. Attends conferences as applicable to demonstrate value of testing. Your Role: The Associate Production Scientist - 1st Shift at MilliporeSigma is focused on manufacturing or evaluating products according to established protocols, provides technical support to others, leads safety and quality, and performs operations in support of the group and department. Additional responsibilities include: * Shift: 1st shift Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm * Will involve 6-12 months training necessary to learn specifics of job adequately to work independently * Safely perform operations to meet quality expectations. * Perform safe chemical-handling techniques * Ensure safety and quality throughout the process. * Adequately trained to perform tasks/assignments. * Perform routine tasks, processes and/or unit operations. * Complete the volume of work required to achieve group/departmental goals and meet deadlines. * Contribute to support functions of the department (e.g., maintain equipment, prepare reagents, restock lab supplies, perform waste disposal, design & build chemical packaging apparatus, create & maintain work instructions, troubleshoot process/equipment issues, etc.). * Communicate the status of operations and bring deviations to the attention of supervisor. * Provide complete and accurate records consistent with quality guidelines (GDP). * Ensure all applicable documentation has been filled out completely (as required by current procedures). * Interact & liaise with other departments as needed, including QC, Manufacturing, Shipping, etc. * Participate as needed in quality & safety audits. * Accurately perform procedures independently. * Comply with change control procedures. * Identify & Improve processes through application of scientific knowledge, experience, and guiding principles. * Participate in process improvements under the guidance of a Supervisor, Scientist, or your own. * Take the necessary action to resolve any unsafe conditions. * Train personnel and act as a technical consultant as needed. * Perform and interpret analytical evaluations of products and intermediates. * Supply, Interpret, & Improve information based on experience and knowledge. * Perform public speaking as needed, including monthly safety meetings. * Participation in Medical Emergency Response Team and/or Emergency Spill Response Team. Physical Attributes: * Working with highly potent / hazardous materials and chemicals safely using proper PPE * Occasional lifting and pushing of up to 50 pounds. Who You Are Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other Life Science discipline Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge in chemistry, math, and general science * Independent lab research experience * Strong background in chemistry, experimental design, and/or lab/manufacturing safety. * Familiar with laboratory instruments and production equipment * Knowledge of process techniques and unit operations * Familiar with analytical techniques and equipment * Good oral and written communication skills * Ability to use various computer programs, including MS Office, inventory control software (i.e., SAP), and quality management software * Basic-to-intermediate mechanical skills (i.e., use of basic hand tools) * Strong troubleshooting, organizational and interpersonal skills * Laboratory, chemical manufacturing, and/or analytical skills * Knowledge of ISO Quality standards Pay Range for this position: $27.00 - $46.00. The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
