Incumbents in this position may be assigned specialized duties associated with the department's patrol, crime prevention, criminal investigation, traffic, School Resource Officer, training, warrants, and accreditation functions Examples of Duties * Patrols the city to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations and to provide assistance as needed; monitors commercial and residential areas for signs of criminal activity. * Enforces traffic and parking laws through the issuance of citations and warnings; inspects roadways, bridges, and traffic signal and signs to identify and report hazardous conditions. * Performs business and residential security checks; checks doors, windows, gates and fences; reports unsecured property. * Responds to calls for service, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, lost or missing persons searches, public service requests, stranded motorists, and others. * Conducts investigations into traffic accidents and criminal incidents, including interviewing victims, complainants and witnesses, gathering information and evidence, and securing crime scenes; conducts narcotics investigations as assigned. * Apprehends, arrests, and processes offenders, including fugitives; subpoenas witnesses. * Provides assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as necessary. * Provides traffic direction as needed for events such as parades, funerals, events, and school crossings. * Testifies in judicial proceedings as necessary. * Completes all required reports and forms, including accident and incident reports. * Inspects and maintains assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. * Prepares arrest and search warrants, complaints, and affidavits; serves criminal and court-related paperwork. * Provides services to local schools as a School Resource Officer. * Coordinates and provides training to department personnel; maintains department training records. * Assists with department accreditation activities; maintains related records. * Officers may be assigned to positions within the department that require them to; Respond to crime scenes and assumes command and responsibility of said crime scenes throughout the duration of the investigation; gathers and maintains intelligence and conducts undercover operations; maintains an on-call status of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, including all holidays; is responsible for an assigned case load requiring the need to effectively conduct multiple criminal investigations simultaneously * Performs related duties.     The Security Guard is responsible for providing protective services to the Oyate Health Center (OHC), including OHC staff, patients, visitors, and property from possible criminal and unwarranted activities. Essential Functions: Patrols the OHC buildings and ground to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and property by deterring crime and prohibited activities, and to protect them from events such as accidents, fire, theft, or intrusion. Monitor surveillance cameras and inspects OHC property. Contacts law enforcement or the fire department in case of an emergency. Investigates reports of suspicious activity on the property and safely intervenes as necessary. Assists with the removal of any unauthorized persons by verbally or physically notifying them or by reasonably detaining the persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives. Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premises. Assure that all exterior hospital doors remain locked during the hours where services are not available. Conduct monthly street light check, reporting outages in the monthly report. Assist with emergency housekeeping duties (i.e., mopping, wiping ER table in absence of Housekeeping Staff when requested. Respond to trouble alarms when Building and Grounds personnel are not present. Secure weapons or firearms from patients, visitors, or staff according to OHC's policy. Maintain prompt, courteous, culturally sensitive services to hospital staff, visitors, patients and community. Submits written log of daily activities and prepares written reports of all unusual situations and conditions encountered.
