The intern will support design and development activities, contribute to prototype build and evaluation, perform electrical and functional testing, and document results in clear technical reports. This role offers hands-on experience in medical device development within a collaborative, regulated R&D environment. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with electrical design activities, including schematics, component selection, and design updates. Support development and assembly of prototype medical device hardware. Perform electrical, functional, and performance testing of prototype designs. Set up and operate test equipment; collect and analyze test data. Document test methods, results, and conclusions in technical reports. Troubleshoot and help resolve design or test issues under engineer guidance. Maintain organized design files, test records, and documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional R&D team members (mechanical, software, quality). Follow applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during development and testing. Minimum Requirements Basic knowledge of electrical design principles and familiarity with schematic capture tools or circuit simulation software (from classes or projects). Become a **maker of possible** with us. **Key Responsibilities** + As a senior member of the electrical engineering team, work collaboratively with multi-functional teams to complete critical improvements or net new robotic product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, build, verification, validation, and certification. + Support the R&D global technical team on multiple projects in parallel. + Actively work to improve the quality and reliability of current and future products within the Pharmacy Automation portfolio by applying theoretical and hands-on electrical support to identify problems and deliver robust solutions. + Provide electrical solutions for changes to existing products in terms of: design test setups for manufacturing, write test applications, develop tools for system diagnostics and monitoring capabilities, and provide support for existing board designs. + Create, update, and release technical documentation to support the electrical aspects of the systems being developed. + Provide electrical support for the ongoing regulatory certification efforts for multiple product lines. **Skills and Experience** + Demonstrated knowledge with motion control, AC power electronics, motors and controls, sensors, servo systems, and embedded control systems + Demonstrated proficiency with LabView and/or LabWindows CVI software to develop and support test automation + Familiarity with the Altium PCB development environment or similar EE design package for schematic capture, board layout, manufacturing files, and documentation for PCBA development. + System level electrical architecture experiencea must. + Ability to build prototype printed circuit board assemblies and cables. + Experience in obtaining and maintaining regulatory certification for products which comply with UL-61010 or UL-60601, CE and TuV. + Experience with obtaining EMI/EMC certification. **Qualification Required** + Bachelor's degree + 10+ years of applicable experience At BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry.
