ETL Developer - Custom Development

The business driver for this initiative is to enable the enterprise to make effective decisions based on data, thus reducing risk for the business and enabling agility in the business. This multi-year program involves a new architecture, tools, and processes to build and implement this environment. It also involves conversion from the existing platform.
The manager for the team is seeking a strong developer to build ETL programs and processes for the new platform. This role will involve working with architects, business stakeholders, and team members to analyze the design, and do the detail technical design and development for new ETL programs. The architecture and design for the ETL environment is custom development using Korn Shell Scripting (KSH), SQL, and related tools. The data warehouse environment is Teradata.
While a high degree of technical expertise is needed, this is not a “heads down” coding position. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with five or more years' experience focused on the development of ETL processes. Technical expertise will focus on KSH, SQL, Linux / Unix, and related skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the ETL team, develop, review, and refine technical design for ETL processes.
Learn and support the data model and architecture for the new environment.
Analyze and enhance ETL processes to determine data sources and destinations.
Develop, test, and implement ETL process for new platform.
As required, support for the current data warehouse environment.
Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand business requirements and technology needs.
Qualifications
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to adapt communications for various audiences.
The ability to work as a collaborative team member yet be self-managed and directed as needed. Initiative to take action towards objectives when faced with ambiguity.
Exceptional skills developing with Korn Shell Scripting, SQL, and related Unix / Linux tools.
Strong database experience with Teradata, Oracle, PL/SQL, and relational and multi-dimensional designs.
Typically, four to seven years' experience working in a data warehouse / BI environment, specifically in custom development of ETL processes.
Proven ability to build ETL packages / scripts from scratch. Strong testing skills.
Understanding of data warehouse architectures and designs including Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions, and Aggregation Techniques.
Data cleansing, data modeling, and other data related experience.
Performance tuning and optimization experience.
Additional experience in Oracle OD / RA, SSIS, MicroStrategy BI, and Message Based integration is a plus.
