The Splicer is responsible for the terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, installing CPE into customer house, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks and their related equipment with the end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. This position will consist of FTTH daytime, but possibility of some night work.
2. Fusion splice, terminate and install assortment of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber up to an 288ct fiber cable.
3. Construct a splice case, including but not limited to bounding, slack storage and sealing.
4. Must know the fiber optic color code system (Must be able to discern colors).
5. Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
6. Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including traffic meters, fusion splicer, power meter, VFL and OTDR.
7. Troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently.
8. Install and maintain CPE local area networks (LAN) and WiFi networks
9. Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT)
10. Perform skilled troubleshooting from the MDF to the demarcation point including CPE
11. Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe standards
12. Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems
13. Locate buried copper and fiber optic cabling
14. Record and report all record changes immediately

Responsibilities
Checks all fluids and maintenance-related parts and tops-off or replaces fluids or filters/parts as required

Completes repair orders by asking good diagnostic questions to identify customer needs, enters all repair orders into scheduling system in the order in which customers are received, and identifies any repair orders that require special handling, such as rush/waiting, comebacks, etc.

Inspects vehicles for noticeable defects, such as dents, scratches, torn upholstery, and poor mechanical operation
Maintains cleanliness of vehicles while performing service or repairs
Maintains current knowledge of vehicle operation, warranties, campaigns, and other service information, such as state lemon laws and Technical Service Bulletins (TSB)

Update Maps and utilize GIS data to ensure the accuracy of the metering system and electric outage information;
Provides internal user support, including assistance with end users' mobile devices using OMS;
Provides training to internal personnel on the use of outage management applications;
Maintains knowledge of system automation and monitoring and related equipment and software;
Assist with acquiring GPS field data using a Trimble or like unit, to include exporting GPS data of City assets into different formats for use in design and mapping; and
Responds to after-hour calls related to SCADA issues as needed.

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree in computer technology or utility related field and at least two-years related experience in technology or utility field; or at least four years of SCADA and utility technology experience. Any equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities could be considered.
Knowledge Of
Methods, practices, and equipment used in information technology related to data automation and metering; methods, practices, equipment used to gather gps data, and equipment used to install and troubleshoot devices and software; Database building; and standard office practices and procedures.
Skill/Ability To

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
* Minimum of 5 years commercial HVAC service experience.
* High school diploma, GED, or diploma equivalent required.
* EPA Certification Preferred.
