Spring Valley Middle School history
Spring Valley Middle School company history timeline
It was among seven schools established during the Gold Rush days when California was admitted to the Union in 1850.
Spring Valley is the oldest school in California which was founded in 1852.
On January 27, 1871, the voters of the Spring Valley section decided to have their own Free School District and elected their first Board of Education.
Then, in 1884, Spring Valley entered a phase of infamy that began with a knock on the door.
It was closed in 1886, and the students of Murray School entered the newly built Lincoln School.
By 1896 a new school was built because of increased population.
The school was opened in January of 1901.
The current building was built after the 1906 Earthquake and Fire.
By 1920, the district had grown sufficiently to necessitate the appointment of a separate principal for the high school which occupied the top floor of the South Main building.
Located at 501 East Erie, Lincoln currently has 12 classrooms and a gym following a 1956 addition.
Spring Valley Academy began as a dream in the mid-1960’s.
Grant School was closed in 1966 when John F. Kennedy School was built.
The school’s home since 2010 has been in the basement of the La Mesa Church of Christ on Jackson Drive in La Mesa.
Construction is expected to take about seven to eight months, in hopes the school might open in early 2019.
