Completes acuity evaluation on all assigned patients according to unit protocol.
Consistently functions proficiently on the nursing unit. Including but not limited to: Manages an average caseload specific to unit Adapts to altered work patterns, sets priorities, and modifies assignments to meet patient needs utilizing available resources and staff ability and availability.
Administers medications prescribed by physicians according to policy, including IV's, blood and blood products. Knows actions, indications, contraindications, precautions, adverse reactions, dosage and route of administration on all drugs before administering to patient.
Verifies against MAR for accuracy on an ongoing basis
Functions as a charge nurse as assigned.
Communicates changes in clinical practice to peers.
Mentors other co-workers, functions as a resource, acts as preceptor, and other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of legal, ethical, and safety issues and delivers care that is safe within the scope of practice.
Reports, documents, and takes appropriate action (by the end of shift) for incidents and or quality care issues that may affect the patient's or staff well-being.

* Life Support Certification: Possess current AHA or ARC BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.

ACT Supported Living Services to adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes or share an apartment with a live-in caregiver. ACT's services are not medical in nature, but instead are focused on caregiving/ ADLs. Some clients of ACT have higher medical needs and qualify for hours for a Nurse Consultant.
This role provides in-home consultation(reliable transportation is a requirement) for clients and support to staff for basic medical care (medication management, after-care procedures, checking and reviewing vitals). A nurse assessment is generally done once a month per client with follow up visits weekly (the hours available per client are determined by the San Diego Regional Center- some clients have 3 hour per week, while others have 2 per month, all depending on their medical needs). Nurse Consultant provides notes of assessments, examinations, and any developing concerns for ACT staff to follow up with the client's medical providers. The role is not to be the provider for the client, but to help ensure that ACT staff are not missing any developing concerns, are trained to address the concerns present, and provide questions, concerns, or requests for staff to communicate to medical providers.
This is a highly part-time position, currently we have 4 clients who receive Nurse Consultant hours, with a total of 22 hours per month. We can be highly flexible for scheduling to accommodate any outside work/ schedule you may have. Mileage for travel is reimbursed.

Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse B-Labor and Delivery(L&D) demonstrates competency in all phases of perinatal nursing in accordance with orientation schedule and experience, e.g., antepartum, labor and delivery, post-partum, new born nursery, operating room, recovery. Provides, coordinates, and documents direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to perform obstetrical medical screening exams in accordance with established standardized procedure and provides detailed report to the physician. Keeps physician informed of change in patient status and seeks assistance from physician as needed. Serves in each area of perinatal services as assigned based on business needs. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) in accordance with LLUMC-Murrieta's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice and applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in perinatal nursing and patient population served. Exhibits interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment and directly supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Associate of Science Degree in nursing required. Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science Degree nursing program within six months of hire with expected completion date two and a half years after enrollment required. Minimum of one year experience in perinatal nursing required. CN-B's are eligible to be promoted into the CN-C classification when criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-C job description are met.
Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates basic competencies in acute care and perinatal nursing. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in all aspects of perinatal nursing and population served. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times and works calmly and responds courteously when under pressure. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Nurse Corps Officers may serve at any one of more than 250 Navy and medical facilities around the globe, from Hawaii to Japan, Germany to Guam and Washington, D.C., to Washington state. As a Navy Nurse, you could work at one of the highly acclaimed National Naval Medical Centers in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA or San Diego, CA. Or you could provide medical support aboard one of two dedicated hospital shipsthe USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy.
