Our Public Works group provides design services to state, county, city, and other public agency clients as well as public and private institutions, campuses, private developers, and non-profit organizations. Transportation / Roadway projects within the Public Works group include bridges (new alignment, replacement, rehabilitation), complex urban and rural roadways, streetscapes, intersection improvements and roundabouts, safety improvements, beautification projects, trails/shared use paths, and more. This position involves design, calculation, and plan preparation from concept design through bid drawings with opportunities for construction administration.

Substation DesignEngineer

Perform detailed design of all or parts of 12kV through 345kV substations consisting of physical layouts, one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and wiring diagrams.

The City of Independence is launching its inaugural Undergraduate Internship program for the Summer of 2026. The 2026 program will have opportunities available in different departments within the City's government. Interns will be actively engaged with duties related to their respective field of study and be given invaluable experience to assist them in their future career paths.
Summer Internship opportunities are available to active undergraduate level students only. To be eligible for a summer internship, students must be actively enrolled at the undergraduate level as either a Junior or Senior in the Fall of 2026 semester, be graduating no earlier than December 2026 and have a cumulative GPA no lower than a 3.0. This internship is fully located in the office, and no remote work will be offered or considered. Depending on the department, there may be some supervised fieldwork in accordance with an internship.

Join a dynamic team dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and distributing custom industrial material handling equipment and systems, tailored specifically for the Automotive and Appliance industries. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in creative and varied design projects.
Responsibilities
+ Design custom lift assists and fixtures, focusing on unique solutions as there is no standard product line.
+ Conduct mechanical design work primarily using Solidworks, allocating approximately 80% of your time to design tasks.
+ Participate in hands-on testing activities to ensure equipment meets design specifications.
+ Assist with customer buyoff processes, ensuring that equipment functions properly before shipment.
+ Work from either the Dublin, OH or Bellefontaine, OH locations, with occasional day trips between these sites, approximately once per month.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 3 years (Level 2 position) or 5 years (Level 3 position) of mechanical designengineering experience with custom equipment/machinery.
+ Proficiency in Solidworks design is essential.
+ Experience in designing fixtures is required.
+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is strongly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in customer-facing roles is highly advantageous.
+ Knowledge in material-handling equipment, fixture design, and finite element analysis (FEA) is beneficial.
+ An outgoing and sociable personality is desirable for effective customer interaction and collaboration within the engineering team.
