DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a CT Construction Services Lead to oversee and grow our construction services operations in Connecticut and the surrounding region. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and business development responsibilities for facilities, highway, bridge, railroad, and utility infrastructure construction projects, primarily in Connecticut and potentially in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Leadership & Oversight
Lead and oversee all contract administration, construction management, and inspection operations on-site.
Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with approved construction documents, permits, and quality standards.
Manage and mentor Michael Baker's, subconsultants', and third-party construction inspection project staff.
Support clients with construction project cost control, including evaluating change orders.
Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and contractors on various construction projects in New England.
Ensure scheduled completion deadlines are met and maintain high client satisfaction.
Project Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, overseeing project delivery from initiation through close-out.
Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
Prepare and present project status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Business Development
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Connecticut construction market and surrounding regions.

Lead or support the preparation of proposals, presentations, and marketing materials for new projects.
Represent Michael Baker International at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote our construction services.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of construction-related experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Connecticut and/or CCM certification is desirable.
Supervisory and project management experience required.
Knowledge of CTDOT construction policies and procedures.

COMPENSATION

The Consulting Engineer will act as project manager for small to medium-sized projects. The work will include new design and the evaluation, investigation, and design of repairs for existing buildings. You will manage challenging single major projects, or multiple projects requiring supervision of several staff and client relationships. This person must maintain professional relationships and involvement (associations, committees, etc.) in their field of technical expertise. Essential duties include climbing ladders and scaffolds, the ability to work at great heights, and the ability to travel, by car, train / subway and air, to multiple job sites.
What You'll Do:
Assisting senior staff in design, site investigations, and documentation of existing conditions.
Investigation and remediation of building envelope malfunctions.
Design and construction assistance to contractors and design consultation to architects.
Component sampling of all envelope components including wall claddings, windows, roofs, skylights, flooring, plaza waterproofing and below grade elements.
Field investigation and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components.
Design of remedial repairs to existing building systems, including walls, roofs, window and curtain wall systems, and plaza waterproofing systems.
Provides on-the-job training and mentoring to staff.
Peer reviews of plans and specifications.
Litigation support for projects involving all the issues discussed above.
Assist with during the construction administration phase of projects.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
5+ years of architectural/engineering or construction management experience.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Architect (R.A.) license required.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Michael Baker International is hiring a Director of Architecture to lead strategic growth for our local New England-based team and strengthen our Integrated Design and Advisory presence. Experience with Massachusetts DCAM, and familiarity with MGL Chapter 149 and 149A legislature highly preferred.
BS/BA Architecture; Bachelor of Architecture; or MS/MA Architecture. with active licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) in the States of Massachusetts and Connecticut. NCARB Certification is required, given potential projects geography.
