Physical Requirements:

The Department of Health and Kinesiology (HK, ************************** The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate knowledge related to health, rehabilitation, and human movement using an interdisciplinary approach. Through the integration of high-quality research, instruction, and outreach programs, faculty scholars within HK are leading initiatives that address pressing concerns of our diverse society such as prevention and management of chronic disease as well as maintenance of health and well-being across the lifespan. The application process is open to all teachers who qualify, however prospective mentors can be encouraged to apply by new teachers, current mentors, and/or administrators. Mentor teachers must demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development, have at least five years experience* with positive performance ratings, and must demonstrate the ability to keep professional and personal conversations confidential. Mentor applications shall include: 1) an application, 2) a current resume, 3) a principal / evaluator reference, and 4) one letter of recommendation/support from a teacher/colleague who can speak to the candidate's experience with new or pre-service teachers.
*In some high-needs areas and in buildings/positions/programs where there are no veteran teachers who meet the standard of experience, exceptions to the five years of experience are made.
MENTOR SELECTION: Applications are reviewed and mentors selected based on specific needs of the building or program, expected new hires for the year, the completed application, and principal/evaluator recommendation. * The teacher will contribute to the community of faith of the school and provide faith leadership to students. * The teacher plans for effective classroom instruction based on students' needs. * The teacher effectively implements teaching plans and conducts classes in a manner which promotes student learning.
* The teacher maintains student discipline so that learning goals can be accomplished, organizes classroom routines and schedules, and keeps adequate records.
* The teacher supervises students for extracurricular activities and moderates student activities assigned by the principal.
* The teacher interacts with students/parents in a positive manner.
* The teacher evaluates students according to school policies using standardized tests, teacher made tests, and special assignments or projects.
* The teacher prepares grades and meets with parents as necessary to report students' progress.
* The teacher meets professional requirements and attempts professional growth. The teacher is ethical in dealing with parents, students, and other staff members.
* The teacher performs other tasks and undertakes other responsibilities necessary to provide quality education in the school as requested by the principal.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree
* Illinois Teaching Certificate preferred-except Theology Teachers (Policy C-113 allows the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools to grant exceptions to the certification requirements).
* Recommendation of Principal
* FBI Fingerprinting, CANTS, Safe Environment Training.
* Demonstrate the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church
