JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job is to work with students to develop sustainable study skills, clarify information relevant to the coursework, and build a positive attitude with the student toward higher education and constructive learning. SEO/Academic Services provides tutorial support to students in multiple educational grant programs.
The position offers flexible scheduling and the amount of hours worked per week is based on the number of requests for tutoring from SEO students and the courses that the tutor is able to teach.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a tutor, primary job responsibilities will be meeting with 1-5 students per semester to check on progress within the class, answer relevant questions, and challenge the student to best utilize their course materials to improve in the class.
Tutors need to be excellent and flexible communicators via phone, Zoom, email, and in-person.
Tutors are highly encouraged to attend regular SEO tutor trainings as well as the CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) trainings provided by the STEP tutoring program.
Tutors will also need to maintain some additional documentation for record-keeping purposes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: At least three semesters of postsecondary education.
Experience: Must have received at least a 'B' in a class that they wish to tutor (although an 'A' is preferred).

Nature and Scope of Job:
School office personnel are usually the first to encounter an individual upon entering a school. In this important role, they are responsible for establishing a helpful, congenial atmosphere for all individuals that enter the building. The telephone manner must convey a cheerful, helpful tone. They must be able to establish good rapport with all individuals in the school (parents, administrators, teachers, students, district workers, other secretaries and aides, and sales representatives).
