The Student Tutor I provides academic support to undergraduate and graduate students through one-on-one and small-group tutoring sessions. Tutors assist students in developing effective study skills, understanding course content, and gaining confidence in their academic abilities. Under the supervision of the Program Specialist and Director, Student Tutors promote active learning and help students achieve academic success in alignment with the mission of the Academic Center for Excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct individual and/or small group- tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material.
Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information.
Help students to identify resources and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when studying on their own.
Other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide tutoring support to students in assigned subject areas through scheduled appointments or walk-in sessions.
Foster an encouraging and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence.
Clarify course concepts, demonstrate problem-solving techniques, and model effective study strategies.
Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student attendance using the designated tracking system.
Attend required tutor training, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.
Communicate regularly with the Program Specialist and faculty to ensure consistent and quality academic support.
Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and university policies.
Serve as a positive role model, upholding professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions.
Minimum Requirements
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Previous tutoring or mentoring experience preferred.

Tutors will work at local elementary schools to provide tutoring services to early elementary children one on one.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material.
Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information.
Help students to identify resources and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when studying on their own.
Other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Collect and submit data to the LTPR at the end of the semester.
Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings.
Maintain literacy center inventory.
Participate in occasional recruiting events.
Minimum Requirements
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

This is a non tenure-track Instructional Assistant Professor (9-month faculty position; 3-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on annual evaluations and performance). Primary duties will include teaching 15 semester credit hours (the equivalent of five courses) per semester in various modalities including face-to-face and online undergraduate courses and online graduate courses. Duties also include mentoring students and providing service on departmental, college, university, and professional committees. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications
