What You Will Do:
Provide high-quality math tutoring to K-8 students, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning styles and needs
Support and mentor a team of tutors, offering guidance, feedback, and resources to help them grow professionally
Observe tutoring sessions and provide constructive feedback to ensure consistent, effective instruction
Lead training sessions or check-ins to reinforce best practices and share strategies for student success
Act as a point of contact for tutor questions, concerns, and day-to-day support
Collaborate with program staff to monitor student progress and address learning challenges
Model professionalism and positive communication, setting the tone for a collaborative, student-centered culture
Qualifications:
Strong math proficiency, with at least a high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in education, math, or a related field is highly preferred
Experience tutoring or teaching math to K-8 students, with the ability to simplify and clearly explain complex concepts
Prior leadership or mentoring experience, ideally within an educational or tutoring setting
Excellent communication skills to provide clear instruction and supportive feedback to both students and fellow tutors
Patience, empathy, and the ability to foster a positive, encouraging learning environment for diverse learners
Skilled at adapting instruction to meet different learning styles, needs, and academic levels
Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance tutoring responsibilities with team support and oversight

Brief Description of Duties
* Teach lower-division undergraduate General Education course, "Chronicles of Education," and/or in the series of "Field study in Humanities" courses designed to introduce prospective K-8 teachers to California's public multiple subject classrooms. In addition, you will hold regular office hours for students, work cooperatively with other department faculty, staff, and department chair, as well as participate in required course grading and assessment activities, etc.
* "Chronicles of Education" uses narratives of education to teach about the forces that shape individuals and societies. The course features histories and narratives of education that represent global, multi-linguistic, gendered and multi-cultural perspectives about educational practice and philosophy. The study of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and educational autobiography, as well as visual art and documentary film, expand traditional views about the sites where education takes place. Topics covered include the history of US education; philosophy of education; global influences on US educational practice; education as colonization; language and the role of embodiment in learning; and education for social resistance.
* Fieldwork Courses: Each course in this fieldwork series requires that student volunteer in public-school classrooms with credentialed teachers. The courses include topics such as funds of knowledge, culturally responsive pedagogy, the physical and procedural classroom, home-school partnerships, and so on. The courses are designed to meet the fieldwork requirement to enter a credential program. It is strongly preferred that instructors of these courses have experience as the teacher of record in a multiple subject classroom.
* Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity-including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
* Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
* All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Daily lesson planning and long term planning using curriculum and resources to align with KIPP's academic vision and goals.
Analyze data regularly to identify student academic trends and inform instructional practices.
Maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment that incorporates Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning.
Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn & achieve.
Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships.
Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and other Communities of Practice to continue learning and growing as an educator.
Update student records regularly, including attendance, grades, behavior data, etc.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead.
