- Behavioral Intervention: Implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with autism and emotional/behavioral needs. Use evidence-based strategies including positive reinforcement, de-escalation techniques, and proactive behavior supports to help students regulate emotions and develop coping skills.
- Targeted Support: Provide one-on-one or small group behavioral support, tailoring interventions to each student's needs. Support students in building self-regulation, social-emotional skills, and classroom engagement.
- Classroom Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and behavior specialists to create a structured, supportive learning environment. Support classroom management by reinforcing expectations, modeling positive behavior, and helping students stay on task.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and document behavioral data consistently, including incidents, triggers, responses, and outcomes. Use this data to inform adjustments to BIPs and support team decision-making.
- Team Communication: Partner with special education staff, behavior analysts, and families to maintain a unified approach to student support. Share observations and collaborate on strategies to ensure consistency across environments.
- Personal Care: Support students with daily routines such as toileting, feeding, or mobility.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Experience supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs
- Experience providing personal care support
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to stay calm and patient in challenging situations

Position Overview:
The Herbst Learning Center (HLC) provides a space dedicated to learning support for all students. One component of this support is our onsite tutoring program. What you'll be doing:
70% Community building, classroom management, and student support
Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
Plan and lead community-building games and activities
Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
Promote positive, productive collaboration between students
Ensure students receive the support they need throughout the course to effectively and confidently showcase a capstone project at our Demo Day
Effectively manage classroom behavior to foster a productive learning environment for all students
Lead class in the event the lead instructor is out
20% Professional collaboration
Attend weekly staff meetings
Communicate and collaborate with Lead Instructor and other instructional staff
10% Communication
Communicate course progress to students and their families
Communicate student progress and success throughout the course to the Program Staff so we can collectively support students' learning

The Public Health Program teaches five core disciplines of public health: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Science, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Also, students gain depth through coursework in a chosen specialized public health concentration in either Community Action for Health or Global Health and Health Equity and Criminal Justice. Students complete their Culminating Experience through a field study internship integrating core sills and knowledge acquired through the Program's didactic phase in a public health setting with one of our many well-established collaborative partnerships. Partnerships include local departments of health, community organizations and non-governmental organizations engaged in public health activities or international institutions in Bolivia, Cambodia, and Ethiopia. Lastly, students complete the Capstone Course choosing an applied project which consists of a formal written manuscript and public presentation; or a comprehensive exam demonstrating their mastery and ability to integrate and apply core public health principles to issues that may confront public health professionals.
This Teaching Assistant (TA) position will be entirely virtual for the opening of the Epidemiology course. The TA will need to be available to offer
homework review sessions and office hours on PST time zone.
Pay: $16/hr - $25/hr depending on experience
Responsibilities
TA Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist hiring course instructors:
•Assist in development of course materials and activities
•Grading course assignments
•Responding to student questions related to course assignments
•Assist in coordination of guest lecture participation

Time Commitment:
•Approximately 5-10 hours per week during spring, summer, and fall semesters
•Instruction schedule varies, work hours follow TUC's regular work schedule of Mon-Thurs from 8:00 AM - 5:00PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
