    The Field Technician position is responsible for providing on-site services and technical assistance for all aspects of hazardous waste management. The role is to respond to customer telephone or electronic enquiries, assist sales with inventory and on site classification of special waste, record and schedule waste projects and subsequent shipments into various disposal facilities, provide support in relation to invoicing questions MSDS acquisition/review, completion of safety paperwork & TDG documentation and waste classification & labelling. Because this position provides a critical role in achieving our customer satisfaction targets (both internal and external), this position establishes the public impression of GFL and becomes a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. Job Duties Actively participate and contribute to GFL's Safety Program Communicate all safety concerns immediately to Supervisors Attend Safety Meetings Complete and submit Daily Toolboxes, FLHA's and Near Misses/Haz ID's Select and utilize appropriate PPE for the task at hand Sample / test waste to determine transport, packaging, and / or disposal requirements Ensure waste is classified and disposed of in accordance with regulatory bodies Complete appropriate manifest /paperwork to accompany the waste pick up Evaluate customer needs and communicate back to the Sales or Technical team Respond to and contribute to all Incident Response work Provide facility support and process work when required Supervision of project work ensuring all activities adhere to GFL's safety program Conduct field work in remote project locations on an as needed basis Involved with execution of chemical and petroleum transfers Participation in projects that are deemed out of scope or require more planning and preparation Requirements Education, post-secondary, in environmental sciences, chemistry, biology preferred. Experience in related field considered an asset. Must be willing and able to work through difficult weather conditions and challenging work site environments Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts, long hours, weekends and travel away from home as business demands Regulatory and technical knowledge with respect to the Hazardous Waste Management Industry is a definite asset Ability to perform physical tasks including shoveling, lifting, moving containers and other heavy materials Good computer skills a plus Detail oriented with excellent organizational, problem solving, time management, communication and interpersonal skills Enthusiastic self-starter with a strong work ethic and proven track record for success Reliable team player that is supportive of co-workers Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces Additional training and experience such as First Aid / CPR, H2S Alive, Fall Protection awareness, would be an asset Repetitive lifting of containers weighing up to 50lbs, ability to perform moderately repetitious and labor-based tasks #GFLTalent We thank you for your interest. Who You Are You are an effective team member experienced in archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring, surveys, and documentation of archaeological, and/or paleontological resources in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and requirements. You live in Northern California to support local work. If you are available to travel to remote work locations, we will consider candidates from elsewhere in California as well. Potential for travel to Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology/anthropology/paleontology or related field. You have a demonstrated ability to use app-based software for field recordation and mapping. You are familiar with working on active construction sites, completing DPR forms, are knowledgeable of archaeological materials common to the region, and have a minimum of six months of field experience or relative academic field experience in Northern California. You enjoy working outside and can walk long distances carrying up to 50 lbs. of gear in a wide variety of conditions, including strenuous natural habitats and difficult weather. You can work some nights and/or weekends. You possess a valid driver's license and have experience driving 4 wheel-drive vehicles off-road. What You Will Do for ESA ESA is looking for Variable Part Time archaeological field technicians to support field projects in Northern California. Qualified candidates can demonstrate the ability to perform all aspects of archaeological and/or paleontological monitoring and familiarity working on construction sites, coordinating with construction personnel, and interacting with Native American monitors. This position is an individual contributor role working in a field environment. **Compensation Data** Starting Rate: $20-$22/hr Overtime: Time and a half after 40hrs/wk, average work week 45 hours minimum Hotel: Covered Housing Stipend: $50/daily if not staying in hotel and traveling out of state Per Diem: $35/daily if enrolled in lodging & working 6+ hours **Job Duties** ● Operate as a lone worker when required, demonstrating independence and self-sufficiency. * ● Operate as one of a pair of technicians when required, demonstrating ability to collaborate work scheduling, hours, and work locations. * ● Fulfill weekly production targets to meet client expectations and timelines. * ● Perform field audits of existing utility infrastructure by visually identifying, inspecting, and recording information. * ● Operate hand-held computers, GPS units, cameras and/or other field technology. * ● Accurately record field observations. * ● Positively and effectively communicate with property owners and agencies to arrange for necessary access and work. * ● Drive, operate, and maintain a company vehicle in a variety of terrains and surfaces (including ATVs). * ● Read and follow maps; navigate (in vehicle and on foot) through a variety of terrains and in all types of weather using a GPS, map, compass, or other methods. * ● Recognize unacceptable safety risk conditions and hazards related to the work environment, federal standards, and client specifications. * ● Review and/or correct data integrity errors within the GIS Database. * ● Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements in order to complete work safely. * ● Perform light maintenance on utility infrastructure, utilizing hand tools. ● Use a fiberglass measuring stick to accurately measure heights on utility poles. ● Collaborate with others (Project Managers, Supervisors, Coordinators, Technicians, and Administrators). ● Ensure the proper care and maintenance of any vehicle and equipment assigned including regular inspections, maintenance checks, and prompt reporting of any issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel. ● React safely and appropriately in emergency situations. ● Report and respond timely and accurately to the supervisor. * ● Participate in employee and professional training events as assigned. ● Travel (75%-100%) for on-site job duties. * ● Perform other related duties as assigned. ● Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules. **Qualifications** ● **Required:** A high-school diploma or equivalent. ● **Required:** Demonstrated proficiency in basic office applications and data entry. Must be willing to learn mapping collection software applications. ● **Required:** Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Effectively and clearly communicate and present information one-on-one and in a group. ● **Required:** Perform basic arithmetic computations. ● **Required:** Apply understanding to carry out detailed instructions. Identify, address, and resolve problems involving multiple variables and varied situations. ● **Required:** Ability to work in all weather conditions. ● **Required:** Valid driver's license along with a clean Motor Vehicle Report.
