Essential Functions

Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Maintains equipment and lab areas for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
Prepares lab for daily operations (e.g. setting up/turning on equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment/materials for scheduled labs.
Procures science supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items for classroom use.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
Researches price and/or availability of science lab resources for the purpose of securing required equipment and/or materials within budget.
Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Other Functions
Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Monitors students (e.g. hallways, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. reading material, taking students to an approved site, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Administers, grades, and enters electronically material (e.g. tests, homework, make-up work, etc.) for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Joint Class Size Assessment Council (JCSAC) allocates Class-Size TeacherAssistant positions to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools and other impacted schools. These positions are reviewed annually and concluded at the end of each school year. Under the general direction of the school principal and under the immediate supervision of a teacher holding a valid state certificate directly engaged in teaching subject matter or conducting activities, assists in the instruction of pupils and performs related duties as required.
The Class Size TeacherAssistant will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
* Assists in the supervision of students during lunchroom and playground activities
* Provides security functions within the school, such as monitoring corridors and reviewing student identification card

* Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments
* Assistteachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying students' work in classrooms

* Consult with teachers regarding concerns of individual students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:Successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all course work required to obtain the appropriate teaching license(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Licensure Requirements Must possess the appropriate Illinois State Board of Education issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching, knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques which includes the following:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience. Completion of an Associate's degree from a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body, or the successful completion of at least sixty (60) semester hours of college credit at a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or another regional accrediting body, including at least one course in the characteristics of mental retardation and severe/profound disabilities, or the successful completion of a state approved paraprofessional assessment, supplemented by at least one year of work experience involving the care and supervision of children with disabilities.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill. Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities, good knowledge of English grammar and spelling, good knowledge of basic mathematics.
Ability to work with and for students with various disabilities, ages birth to twenty-one (21) years of age; ability to follow written and oral instructions and direction; ability to complete and maintain basic written reports. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Joint Class Size Assessment Council (JCSAC) allocates Class-Size TeacherAssistant positions to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools and other impacted schools. These positions are reviewed annually and concluded at the end of each school year. Under the general direction of the school principal and under the immediate supervision of a teacher holding a valid state certificate directly engaged in teaching subject matter or conducting activities, assists in the instruction of pupils and performs related duties as required.
The Class Size TeacherAssistant will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
* Assists in the supervision of students during lunchroom and playground activities
* Provides security functions within the school, such as monitoring corridors and reviewing student identification card

* Assistteachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying students' work in classrooms
* Operates photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce educational materials

* Consult with teachers regarding concerns of individual students
* Operate audiovisual equipment such as cassette recorders, movie projectors, film strip projectors, tape recorders, and photographs.

* Assist in collecting and grading students' homework assignments and examination materials under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
* Assist in supervising the loading and unloading of students on school busses.
* Assist in the receipts processing and insurance of new books under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
* Collect daily classroom absentee reports and contact parents and guardians to verify the causes of student absence.

To be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Class Size TeacherAssistant must possess the following qualifications:
Education Requirements:
* Graduation from high school (or G.E.D. equivalent)
Certification Requirements: Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), which may be applied for and obtained after the successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit at a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or successful completion of a paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
