The Instructor must utilize centrally developed materials, informed by representative instructor Subject Matter Experts, to assure that all students taking the same course, regardless of instructor, will benefit from the same support materials and that the mastery of concepts will be evaluated consistently, utilizing the same assessments. This allows the instructor to focus time and energy on facilitation of the learning process. Central development of curriculum and learning materials in no way compromises the academic freedom of instructors. Instructors are encouraged to exercise their academic freedom by drawing upon their own education and professional experiences to illustrate concepts. The instruction provided in each classroom is unique due to the unique perspective and experience possessed by the instructor teaching the course.
We embrace the use of technology to facilitate student access to learning materials whenever they wish, as frequently as they wish. In some cases, the amount of time a student spends in a physical classroom will be reduced, redirecting some time toward engagement with content within a virtual classroom. In other cases, the student may access content online, but the amount of time spent in the physical classroom will be unchanged. Delivery of content on a Learning Management System (LMS) allows students to access learning materials as often as they need in order to master concepts; utilization of the LMS to deliver content and assess learning also allows faculty members to monitor student engagement and performance so that intervention can occur when the student begins to struggle. Instructors must be comfortable with the use of technology to monitor student progress, communicate with students individually and collectively, and to support students through the provision of constructive feedback and/or the provision of additional learning resources.
