What You'll Do In this role, you will directly influence how new thermal products move from concept to repeatable, scalable production. You will: New Product Introduction & Process Development * Lead smooth transitions of products from Product Development to Manufacturing * Translate engineering designs and customer requirements into robust processes, tooling, and documentation * Develop and improve fabrication processes, workflows, and material flow Tooling, Procedure & Documentation * Design and build custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs that enable high-quality manufacturing * Create procedures, travelers, and work instructions to ensure consistency and compliance * Support technicians and production staff with clear direction and engineering expertise Production Support & Continuous Improvement * Analyze cycle times, floor layouts, and production data to improve throughput and efficiency * Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and identify cost, quality, or process improvements * Interact directly with suppliers, generating and approving purchase orders as needed * Evaluate test results, quality data, and customer requirements to ensure compliance This is a hands-on role-expect regular interaction with technicians, parts, processes, and equipment. As our next process development associate, you will be an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on the development of new products and processes utilizing Corbion's unique fermentation based technology. RESPONSIBILITIES: Hands-on role in the setup, operation, and cleaning of bench and pilot scale experiments and equipment, with focus on upstream cultivation of microorganisms and hand-off of fermentation broth to downstream operations. Work on lab and pilot-scale processes emphasizing upstream cultivation operations including media preparation, aseptic operations, fermenter setup, seed train development in flasks and fermenters, main fermentation operations for product formation, etc. Operate lab and pilot equipment and processes independently, including operational support of fermentation processes over weekends. Conduct analytical methods required to monitor processes and materials; hands-on skills with instrumental analysis and wet chemistry. Provide detailed observations of experiments. Key Responsibilities * Develop, refine, and maintain grinding and polishing processes for glass and ceramic optics, ensuring precision, repeatability, and efficiency across multiple product lines. * Analyze and improve existing workflows and equipment utilization to remove production bottlenecks and enhance overall throughput. * Author and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, operation sheets, and inspection procedures, in accordance with ISO 9001 and internal quality standards. * Train and mentor technicians and junior engineers on polishing best practices, metrology interpretation, and process discipline. * Utilize metrology tools including interferometers, autocollimators, profilometers, and CMMs to evaluate surface form, finish, and alignment. * Partner with quality and production teams to define critical-to-quality characteristics and establish data-driven control systems for monitoring process health. * Lead or participate in root cause investigations, implement corrective actions, and deliver technical reports and presentations to management. * Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging statistical process control and lean manufacturing principles. Your Profile * Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master's preferred. * (Equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of relevant experience considered.) * Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in optical fabrication and polishing, including single- and double-side processes. * Strong understanding of glass and ceramic materials, abrasives, slurry chemistry, and polishing compounds. * Proficiency in interferometry and optical metrology, with the ability to interpret test data to guide corrective actions. * Familiarity with CMMs, spherical generation, or optical assembly techniques a plus. * Experience working with SAP systems, and competency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools. * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional technical teams. * Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; capable of clearly communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences. * Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement training preferred.
