Methodology – How We Determined The Worst Cities For Women In Nebraska
Each city was ranked in four categories:
- Percentage Of Women In Management (Lower is worse)
- Percentage Of Women In Poverty (Higher is worse)
- How much women earn per male dollar earned (Lower is worse)
- Uninsured Women (Lower is worse)
To assess the income gap between women and men in each city, we utilized the Census’ American Community Survey. We calculated the ratio of median male income to median female income to determine how much women earned for every dollar earned by men.
For the poverty rate among women, we relied on the ACS data. This metric focuses on women living alone without relatives, as this demographic tends to earn less and may face higher poverty rates compared to their married counterparts.
We also examined the percentage of women in management roles using ACS data to understand women’s representation in leadership positions, as this can influence opportunities for advancement.
Lastly, we analyzed the percentage of uninsured women in each city, again using ACS data.
Our analysis included only cities in Nebraska with populations exceeding 5,000.
