The Case Worker determines client eligibility and referrals for a variety of social services and provides other social services and provides short-term case management. This position researches and establishes connections with service providers in the region on behalf of the Brazos County Public Defender Office.
Essential Duties:
Case workers in a public defender's office play a vital role in providing support and assistance to attorneys and clients throughout the legal process. Their primary functions include:
• Client Intake and Assessment: Case workers are responsible for conducting initial client interviews and intake assessments. • Referrals and Resource Coordination: Case workers connect clients with community resources and services that may be beneficial to their overall well-being and their case. Case workers help clients access these resources and coordinate their involvement in the client's defense plan.
• Court Preparation and Support: Case workers assist attorneys in preparing for court appearances, including arranging client transportation, coordinating witness appearances, and ensuring all necessary documents and evidence are available. They may also provide support during court proceedings, such as organizing exhibits, taking notes, and assisting with the presentation of evidence.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Case workers collaborate closely with public defenders, investigators, and other members of the defense team. Case workers provide valuable insights and perspectives based on their knowledge of the clients and their cases.

Works under the review and supervision of a Board Certified, Licensed Behavior Analyst who reviews and signs that the observations and therapeutic interventions of the BHS III meets generally acceptable professional standards. Serves as a member of the Unit and Interdisciplinary Teams. Provides technical assistance and ensures training and feedback to staff responsible for implementing behavior support plans. Uses appropriate supervisory/management staff for assistance as needed. Participates in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to behavioral health service provision. Works with individuals who have complex needs and who may exhibit aggressive, self-injurious, and/or other challenging behaviors. The work schedule varies situationally based upon service needs. Works under moderate supervision with some latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, based upon experience and skills The BHS III is hired and directly supervised by the Unit Director in consultation with the Director of Behavioral Health Services (Unit Model) or hired and directly supervised by the Director of Behavioral Health Services (Departmental Model). Professional supervision is provided by the Director of Behavioral Health Services or designee.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility.

A Board-Certified Licensed Behavior Analyst monitors the progress evaluations completed by the BHS V to ensure they meet generally acceptable professional standards.
Provides documentation (including data, graphs, and progress notes) to reflect and evaluate individual's response to treatment.
Participates as an effective member of the Unit and Interdisciplinary Teams to provide behavior support and behavioral health information and programming perspectives to facilitate overall service delivery.
Monitors and evaluates use of restraints and emergency procedures and ensures their accurate and timely documentation to ensure appropriate and minimal use.
Assists in the coordination and review of psychotropic medications such that these medications are only used in conjunction with adequate nonpharmacological supports, including counseling plans, psychiatric support plans and behavior support plans.
Participates in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to psychological service provision.
Plans the work of, assigns duties to, and provides technical assistance to assigned staff to facilitate effective behavior service delivery as evidenced by effective performance on the part of assigned staff.
Assists in collecting information for evaluations to assess individuals' level of intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior. Collects and summarizes information for behavioral health assessments and annual updates.
Maintains current knowledge in relevant areas in behavioral analysis and behavioral health services and training techniques to provide maximally effective services.
Performs special assignments as requested.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

Experience in a clinical practicum or clinical project related to caregiving, or other experience in caregiver settings preferred.

Essential Duties:
Knowledge of alcoholism, chemical dependency, addiction, co-dependency, and related disorders.
Designs and implements complex programs treatment and discharge plans for offenders; and conducts intensive or comprehensive interventions.
Assume independent clinical responsibility for all offenders including the application of crisis intervention techniques to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
Collaborates with supervisor or other psychiatric, social work, or medical professionals on specific case related issues to maintain continuity of care, and to aid in achieving therapeutic and restorative goals for offenders through individual and group counseling.
Conduct evaluation tests for offenders to determine needs, establish goals and develop plans; make referrals to contract professionals for assessment and treatment of offenders.
Provide recommendations regarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assist program director and treatment team.
Maintain and monitor confidentiality of offenders and review status of offenders.
Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff and offenders.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) required.
Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below more than the required four (4) may be substituted for thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
Four (4) years full-time wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment.
Current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), current licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Texas Commission of Professional Counselors, or current licensure as a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA) by the Texas Board of Psychological Examiners.
Therapeutic community environment experience preferred. Must hold a current CPR certification and maintain a valid license for continued employment.
Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Must successfully complete a TDCJ approved Correctional Awareness Training (CAT), annual in-service training requirements, and annual background check.
