ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. Keeps students safe, comfortable, and engaged through songs, games, or other appropriate activities while being transported. Evaluates whether a student appears too ill to attend school at the time the student boards the bus or vehicle. If necessary, return the student to their parents, guardian, or authorized individuals and do not accept them for transport. Refer to the RCMA Health Book for guidance. Transportation Duties: Rides with students on the bus or vehicle during transport from home to school, and school to home. Adheres to all safety protocols, including: Ensuring that no student is left unattended on the bus or vehicle at any time. Executing emergency evacuation procedures of the bus or vehicle when required. Following proper procedures for releasing and receiving students from parents, guardians, or assigned individuals, in compliance with Chapter S.1302.47(b)(4) and the Bus Aide Safety Procedure Training. Adhering to the Transportation Final Rule for existing drivers and monitors, as referenced in 45 CFR §1310.17 of the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). If the assigned driver is unable to drive a bus or vehicle that requires to have a CDL, the Bus Aide must contact the school immediately and remain with the students until a qualified driver arrives. Vehicle Maintenance & Documentation: Keeps the interior of the bus or vehicle clean and orderly. Accurately maintains the Daily Transportation Attendance Log. Communication & Program Knowledge: Ensures messages from the Teacher and/or School Director are delivered to students' homes as instructed. Review and become familiar with program goals, objectives, and philosophy. Adheres to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements. Professional Development: Attends all required training sessions and staff development activities to stay informed and prepared. EDUCATION: A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Bus Aide. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to comprehend and follow instructions given verbally or in writing, and interpret documents, policies, and procedure manuals.
