The City of Takoma Park Recreation Department is seeking Recreation Program Aides (multiple positions available) for our childcare programs. This position will assist the program supervisor at the Takoma Park Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Ave) or Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Ave) for youth in kindergarten to fifth grade. Candidates must have the ability to think critically and creatively. Incumbent should be a motivated team player, with good communication skills. The dates for the program will take place over the 2025-2026 Montgomery County Public School Year. The typical work hours vary and can be Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and/or 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with occasional half days and school days off throughout the school year. A first review of resumes is expected to begin on July 5, and will remain open until all positions are filled. Typical Duties Include: Providing customer service and general supervision to child care participants; Providing program support, including daily activities; Positively enforcing discipline problems and abiding by the Recreation Department Discipline policy; Providing for a clean, safe and secure environment; Maintaining and properly operating equipment and supplies; Assisting with set-up and breakdown of the program supplies at the beginning and end of the program; Administering first-aid, if necessary; Monitoring participants, ensuring the rules are followed and that the participant's behavior is appropriate; Remaining energetic and active at all times and is innovative to encourage participant engagement. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to be successful are: General knowledge of youth programs; Ability to work outside in various weather conditions; Strong customer service skills; Ablity to provide mature leadership, have fun, be flexible, and share enthusiasm; Neat and professional appearance and attitude; Work effectively and communicate with the public, supervisor, and fellow employees; Ability to interact effectively with all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds; Must enjoy working with children, youth and young adults; Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Minimum Qualifications Include: Must be 16-17 years of age; Possess or have the ability to possess Standard CPR/First Aid certifications. The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $17.68 and $20.82 per hour, and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate.This position is not subject to membership in the AFSCME union. /Scope of Responsibility Maryland Orthopedic Specialists is a division of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO), one of the nation's largest Orthopaedics practices. The Rehab Aide is responsible for providing support to Physical and Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants in their treatment of patients, under their direct supervision as required in accordance with CAO's policies and procedures and state and federal (Medicare) rules and regulations. The Rehab Aide may also be responsible for assisting in front desk job duties as necessary. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists the therapists in the treatment of non-Medicare patients, under the therapists' direct supervision, including but not limited to the following: retrieving and/or assisting therapists with set up and administration of modalities; setting up exercise machines as necessary for each individual non-Medicare patient; monitoring exercise repetitions/form as requested by the therapists for non-Medicare patients. Cleans plinths, equipment, counter tops, and any other surfaces as necessary to disinfect clinic and maintain CAO's high standards of cleanliness. Adheres to work schedules, which are created to maximize hours of patient care and patient volume, therefore, schedules may vary from day to day depending on patient need, including early morning hours, evening hours and Saturday hours depending on clinic. Assists with doing laundry (if applicable) and ensuring towels, modality accessories, etc. are clean, folded and put away in the appropriate place. Performs front desk job duties including but not limited to answering the phone, scheduling patients, patient registration, insurance verification and any other duties as specified by Clinic Manager/Therapy Director. Is responsible for attending monthly clinic staff meetings or if unable to attend, he/she is responsible for obtaining a copy of the written agenda from the Clinic Manager/Therapy Director. Assists with the smooth running of the clinic, which may include variations in scheduled hours, as well as staffing at another CAO location. Actively participates in the Therapy team, including but not limited to staff meetings, CAO sponsored events, webinars, in-services, and departmental meetings. May be required to work evenings depending on Practice operating hours and needs of the therapy clinic. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience High School Diploma required. Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records. Maintains CPR Certification for Healthcare Professionals Competencies/Required Skills & Abilities Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate in a decentralized organization. Must participate in CAO's Rehab Aide training and pass CAO's Rehab Aide proficiency exam. Physical Demands Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting. Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift. Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
