Purpose and Impact:
The Preschool Program Aide works as part of a team to assist in activities in the areas of the classroom, kitchen and on bus as needed. May also assist with special needs children. May be assigned to various locations as deemed necessary for program operations. Participates in the HS/EHS Quality Assurance efforts.
Essential Functions:
Assists classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities included in lesson plans.
Assists in developing materials and providing activities related to the cultural background of the children and families served.
Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and social skills.
Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
Assists the teacher in any aspect of the program as needed (i.e. at family nights, copying newsletters, making phone calls, preparing classroom materials, etc.)
Serves as a temporary substitute in the periodic absence of the teacher assistant or teacher.
May work with assigned children with disabilities, supporting the work of the classroom staff, managers, specialists and/or mental health consultant in carrying out the individual plans for children with special needs.
With direction from professional staff, follows IEP/IFSP.
Sanitizes surfaces, picks up and stores materials in the classroom or kitchen to maintain a safe environment.
May assist with janitorial services in the absence of the regular custodian or janitor.
May assist in the preparation of food, logging meals/snacks following USDA/CACFP required documentation for food purchased, prepared and served.
Participates in food service cleanup, inventory and other food service tasks as requested.
Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to HS/EHS children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
Attends all workshops and training as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: This is an entry-level position. Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents will receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified. Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area.
Also required: Successful completion of the 45 hours of Florida Child Care Facility Training within 12 months** of the date of hire. Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days from the date of hire and successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check, health, TB and drug screening prior to hiring.
** Timeline of completion of the 45 hours is dependent on the candidate's date of entering childcare industry; must enroll within 90 days to take coursework and complete within 12 months to not exceed 15 months.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for public safety work in various divisions, districts, offices, or specialized sections of the Sheriff's Office. Performs data entry relative to crime analysis and crime reporting.
Transports lost and found children, witnesses, indigent individuals, truants, and complainants.
Performs reception duties as dictated by the function of the assigned work unit, i.e., receiving and responding to telephone inquiries, directing to persons to appropriate entities or departments, providing information.
Performs follow-up investigations to ensure resolution on excessive false alarms; investigates for the purpose of determining trigger source(s);

Testifies in depositions and court proceedings regarding the finding and processing methods used to gather evidence at the crime scenes.

NATURE OF WORK
This is a paraprofessional position designed to relieve law enforcement personnel from non-police, non-hazardous service calls and duties.
Employees in this classification are responsible for assisting with law enforcement-related complaints which do not require arrest powers, but do involve traffic duties and responsibilities for the accurate, rapid and effective evaluation of, and response to, telephone calls for information and police assistance. Work is performed in accordance with prescribed law enforcement procedures and departmental regulations; however, incumbents exercise some independent judgement in the absence of immediate supervision in reacting to emergency situations. Supervision is received from a superior who establishes work schedules and reviews work through personnel observation and written reports for efficiency and effectiveness.

Annual Leave:

Perfect Attendance:
For every six (6) months period (April 1 - September 30) and (October 1 - March 31) in which, no sick or unpaid leave is utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited. Employees who qualify for a consecutive Perfect Attendance benefit shall receive fourteen (14) hours of annual leave credited for each applicable consecutive earning period.
Sick Leave:
Each employee earns (96) hours (12 days) of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and unlimited accrual. Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee's current rate of pay at time of resignation. Upon separation of employment due to retirement, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of the employee's current rate of pay at the time of retirement.
Sick Leave Conversion:
After completion of one (1) year of continuous, full-time employment with the City, an employee may convert their unused portion of their first six (6) days (maximum of forty-eight (48) hours) of accrued sick leave into annual leave. Conversions are subject to the following: A minimum of 96 unused sick leave hours accrued prior to hours being converted, total eligible sick leave hours to be converted shall be reduced hour-for-hour by any sick leave hours utilized during the eligible benefit period, and conversion subject to annual leave accrual cap.

Perform daily cleaning duties following policy and procedure, universal precautions.
Maintain strong hand washing technique between patient contacts and room cleaning.
Assist in terminal cleaning protocol of OR suites when directed.
Assure surgical equipment is moved to proper location after cleaning and surgical bed is replaced to LOCKED position.
Decontaminate equipment, stretchers and beds after use and prepare post-op beds and stretchers to maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies, masks and scrub supplies for all designated areas with Department.
Restock irrigation and blankets daily to appropriate locations.
Validate environmental supply inventory for needed rotation to verify any expired product line.
Validate specimens in logbook prior to transport to pathology. Initials book with time.
Monitor and record temperature of OR suites/warming cabinets according to policy and procedure.
Assure all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly utilizing universal precautions.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Strong follow-through and understanding of the principle of universal precautions
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience in an acute care hospital setting
Physical Requirements:
Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.
Able to lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
Stooping, pushing and pulling required when moving patients or equipment into position for surgery.
Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests with courtesy and respect.
Working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish completion of the daily surgical schedule.
