Purpose Statement/Job Overview:
This position assists school personnel under the direction of the building administrator, or designee (Title I Teacher Leader or School Counselor), in instructional and non-instructional activities for students who are exhibiting behavioral challenges. This position implements and monitors intervention for students, supports the development and implements classroom supports, and models techniques for staff in teaching positive student behavior.
Primary duties include (but are not limited to) engaging in the following activities with support and direction:
Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior
Interpret and implement written behavior plans,
Utilize and model the implementation of positive behavior supports with students
Observes, collects data, and analyzes existing classroom conditions in order to assist with behavior plan strategies and implementation to provide input on student needs.
Collect data regarding student behaviors and support appropriate instructional modifications to develop responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students.
Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
Provides behavior skills instruction and reteaching under the direction of the school administrator, or designee, in one-on-one, small group or whole group situations
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with multiple school teams
Support inclusion in general education classrooms
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Collaborate with administration, counselors, teachers and other school personnel,

Job Description
What Does This Job Include:
Encouraging residents to maintain and develop their fullest potential for living through participation in activity and recreational programs in memory care and on assisted living.
They will work in conjunction with the activity director.
Be willing to assist and work with volunteers and be able to utilize their assistance.
Getting the caregivers involved in assisting with group activities.
Inventory needed supplies for a variety of different activities.
Contributing new ideas for the monthly activity calendar.
Following the monthly activity calendar on the days scheduled to work.
Willing to ensure that activities are offered to each resident as identified on the resident service plan.
Participating in required monthly In-Services.
Will leave the activity room clean and orderly at the end of their shift.
Maintains a good working relationship with all customers; including residents, family members, community, vendors and staff.
May be asked to work different days or hours should a special activity/event that requires more activity assistants, fall on a day off.
Willing to provide 1:1 visits/interaction with residents that are not attending group activities.
Will refrain from gossip of any kind and conducts self professionally.
And any other duties required by Activity Director or Administration

Physical Requirements:
Has ability to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 40 lbs.).
Qualifications:
Must be 17 years or older.

Must have current Food Handlers Permit.

As an entry-level Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In-Home Caregiver, you support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live their best lives as independently as possible. You provide this support and guidance in their homes or at programs they attend during the day. As you walk side-by-side with your participants, you always model appropriate social skills and behaviors. Your support is needed in many areas of daily living including medication administration, bathing, hygiene, basic first aid, shopping, meal preparation, transportation, budgeting, housekeeping, and home maintenance.
Using effective teaching and mentoring techniques, you also work with participants to learn new skills and achieve goals. You provide life skills training in areas such as employment, money management, and relationship-building. You also assist them with gaining employment and finding recreational activities that they enjoy. You are conscientious about reporting any concerns about their health and safety and keeping documentation accurate and up-to-date. The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. The Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice (IDRPP) is Utah's federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The IDRPP opened its doors in 1972 and was the first UCEDD program in the U.S. to focus on the educational and social needs of children and adults with disabilities. Over the past 50 years the IDRPP has grown into one of the largest UCEDD programs in the nation and is recognized as a pioneer in research, training, technical assistance, and services for children and adults with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who serve them.

Funding Statement
The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.

What Does This Job Include:
Encouraging residents to maintain and develop their fullest potential for living through participation in activity and recreational programs in memory care and on assisted living.
They will work in conjunction with the activity director.
Be willing to assist and work with volunteers and be able to utilize their assistance.
Getting the caregivers involved in assisting with group activities.
Inventory needed supplies for a variety of different activities.
Contributing new ideas for the monthly activity calendar.
Following the monthly activity calendar on the days scheduled to work.
Willing to ensure that activities are offered to each resident as identified on the resident service plan.
Participating in required monthly In-Services.
Will leave the activity room clean and orderly at the end of their shift.
Maintains a good working relationship with all customers; including residents, family members, community, vendors and staff.
May be asked to work different days or hours should a special activity/event that requires more activity assistants, fall on a day off.
Willing to provide 1:1 visits/interaction with residents that are not attending group activities.
Will refrain from gossip of any kind and conducts self professionally.
And any other duties required by Activity Director or Administration
Universal Precautions:
Exposure to blood/bodily fluids is likely.
Physical Requirements:
Has ability to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 40 lbs.).
Qualifications:
Must be 17 years or older.
Must be in good health and properly immunized against infectious diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and diphtheria.
Must provide written proof of recent TB test or obtain within two weeks of date of hire.
Must have current Food Handlers Permit.
Must be positive and encouraging and have the ability to motivate residents to participate in activities.
