Duties Description The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) in the Genesee Region is seeking a Trail Laborer to assist in maintaining and enhancing the trail systems within Letchworth State Park and the Genesee Region. The Trail Laborer will work as part of a team to perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks. The Trail Laborer will report directly to the assigned Park Supervisor 1, SG-11, or other higher-level staff. The position will work with up to four trail crew members and assist volunteer group projects. This is a 40 hour/week, Monday - Thursday, seasonal position with the potential to work year-round. The typical workday will be 7:00am - 5:30pm, with a 30-minute lunch. Housing is not provided.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
* Construct dimensional lumber stairs, retaining walls, bridges, and boardwalks.
* Construct new trails and improve existing tread and drainage systems.
* Perform regular upkeep on stone staircases and retaining walls.
* Provide general maintenance for park facilities.
* Remove hazards such as fallen trees and debris using chainsaws or other tools.
* Groom winter trails and remove risk trees in coordination with NYS Parks operations staff during the off-season.
* Work on uneven and steep terrain, carry and move tools, materials, and equipment weighing 80 pounds or more.
* Operate both hand and power tools in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
* Adhere to the agency's Code of Conduct Policy and ensuring compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:

POSITION SUMMARY:
